Week of 5/19 – 5/25

Subterranean Discovery!

Last week, Wasabi News readers might remember that the Manhole Cover public work had been completed.  For over a week the Manhole Cover lay in the ground, unchanged and seemed more like a decoration than anything else.  But sometime after 8PM on 5/20, Mayor Neko nearly stumbled down the Manhole!  The cover was lifted, and a bright light was emanating from down below.  (Anyone having a flashback from the TV show “Lost” right now??)  Without knowing what to expect, Mayor Neko cautiously jumped in and headed below ground.

At first, all Mayor Neko found underground was a long and creepy corridor.  It was pretty dark, and the Mayor admitted afterwards that she was a bit scared.  But curiosity got the best of her, and she walked all the way down the hall to where she assumed the source of the light was located.

Mayor Neko was extremely surprised to find what she did.  “It was pretty rank down there, between the smell of old pizza and garbage, to that wet mildew odor that sticks to the air underground…” Mayor Neko was quoted as saying to King after her visit.  In addition to the garbage, there was an old TV, some chairs, lockers, and of course… Resetti himself!  Apparently Mayor Neko had stumbled into Resetti’s Surveillance Center, and the mole in charge was not pleased!

Instead of giving the Mayor a proper greeting, Resetti rudely berated Mayor Neko for being where she did not belong.  (As the Mayor, shouldn’t she have full access to every part of town?)  After angrily ranting to the Mayor, Resetti decided to ignore her and watch his TV until she went away.

Before retreating back to the surface, Mayor Neko noticed a small area off to the side of the Surveillance Center.  There was a toilet!  She had to try it out, even though it was a bit unsanitary – she couldn’t close the stall door!  The toilet flushed itself when she got up.  Gross.  Resetti didn’t even mutter a “goodbye” when Mayor Neko walked back down the creepy hallway to leave.  Mayor Neko has pledged to speak to Shizue about turning off the cable access in the Surveillance Center.  It seemed a lot more like a break room than anything else!  Why should Mayor Neko have spent ฿398,000 for Resetti to have a place to watch TV??

MUSEUM UPDATE

Blathers, the curator of the Wasabi Museum, is extremely proud to announce the unveiling of a very famous artwork in the Art Exhibit.  Mayor Neko generously donated a Michaelangelo!  The Statue of David was donated to the Wasabi Museum Art Exhibit on 5/21.  This enormous statue was set up in the second room of the Exhibit.  It seems the placement is kind of amusing – it looks as though the ladies of the Van Gogh paintings in the background are checking him out!

A LESSON IN MODERN FASHION…

There was even more excitement on 5/21, this time at the Town Plaza.  The infamous fashion guru Gracie Grace was standing in the rain, waiting to be judgmental about one thing or another.  Mayor Neko asked what the theme was this time, and did her best Japanese sleuthing to determine that the style requested for this visit was Modern.  Not sure what to wear, Mayor Neko consulted with her colleague Mayor Yumi to find an outfit that would pass the test.

Mayor Yumi helped out Mayor Neko by supplying a “modern ensemble.”  All of the clothes and accessories fit the Modern theme – who said they had to match??  For the record, Mayor Neko wore an Airy Shirt, a Dark Polka Skirt, Ellipse Shades and Sabot shoes.  Mayor Neko practiced her modeling technique in Kasen Village (of course Nelson was creepily hovering close by to catch a glimpse!) before heading back to rainy Wasabi to take her fashion exam.

Even though she felt that she looked super silly, Mayor Neko passed the test!  Gracie Grace did the usual spin of approval, and handed over a coveted item from the Princess furniture series, which is a Gracie exclusive.  Mayor Neko displayed her new item, the Princess Dresser, in her home, which is quickly filling up and needing more expansions.  Now Mayor Neko only needs one more successful fashion evaluation before the final upgrade to the Nook Shop will be available!  Good luck, Mayor Neko!

PUBLIC WORKS UPDATES

This week was a busy one for Shizue!  Several Public Works projects were funded and constructed this week.  In chronological order:

5/21 – Big Red Shoe Bench!

5/22 – Enclosure/Garden

5/24 – Rose Arch at the Mayor’s Estate

Currently in the funding stage right now is the Sand Pit, which is expected to be completed by the next issue of Wasabi News.  Stay tuned!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TOWNIES!

This week, two Wasabi villagers celebrated their birthdays!  On 5/22 it was Kitt’s birthday, and 5/24 was Derry’s birthday!  Many happy returns to you both!  Mayor Neko was in attendance at Derry’s party, but is sad to admit that she kind of forgot to go to Kitt’s party.  Sorry Kitt!

Week of 5/12 – 5/18

Mayor Neko Flounders in Fishing Tourney!

Saturday, 5/18 was the date of the Fishing Tournament in Wasabi.  Mayor Neko and all the villagers were out with their fishing rods on this beautiful sunny day, eager to catch the biggest fish!  Chip, the Tournament Host, was asking to see the biggest Carp that the contestants could find.  It wasn’t very easy to find Carp on this day, there seemed to be plenty of OTHER river fish swimming about.  But Mayor Neko tried her best, and actually caught quite a few Carp to enter in the Tournament.  She donated her biggest fish last, so that she might earn some furniture from the exclusive Fish Series!  She was given a fish wallpaper and some kind of jellyfish lamp for her efforts.

After Mayor Neko submitted her biggest Carp, which was 68.3 cm at 2PM, she figured she’d be in first place for the rest of the day.  Who could top that?  It was time to get off of ACNL and go to the CROSSFIRE II event with StreetPass Long Island, so the Tournament was left alone.  After 6PM, Mayor Neko returned to Wasabi to find out the Tournament results.  She was in for a shocking outcome…

Apparently, during the afternoon, the rest of the townies had edged out Mayor Neko from the competition!  Ri-Rii took the first place spot, with Kitt and Wendy in 2nd and 3rd respectively.  Mayor Neko was shocked and full of regret for not being a more diligent competitor!  She vows that next time, she will not make the same mistake again.

PUBLIC WORKS UPDATE

At long last, the Manhole Cover Public Works project has finally completed it’s funding on 5/12.  Rather than the normal celebration at the site of the Public Work with Shizue, Mayor Neko instead was greeted by Resetti when the Manhole Cover was constructed.  Turns out that this Public Works project is more than just an Manhole Cover!  It’s the secret doorway to a hidden area called the Resetti Surveillance Center.  Resetti warned Mayor Neko NOT to go down into hole, should she ever see the Manhole Cover open.  We’ll see if Mayor Neko listens to Resetti’s demand!

STALK MARKET SOARS IN KASEN

Good news was spread on 5/16 when word from Mayor Yumi of Kasen Village reached Mayor Neko’s ears.  Apparently there was a huge surge in the price per turnip in the Kasen Stalk Market!  Each turnip was selling for over ฿460/turnip.  Mayor Neko didn’t have TOO many turnips to sell, but she grabbed them all and rushed over to Kasen’s Recycling Shop to take advantage of the great prices!  She hauled in over ฿186K.  Great work, Mayor Neko and Mayor Yumi!

Many Holidays!

Resetti was FUMING!

Squirt got in trouble last week because I accidentally turned off the Wii without saving.  It doesn’t happen often, but when I do see Resetti it’s usually pretty funny.  He called Squirt a big baby for resetting the game.  I tried to explain that it was an ACCIDENT, I wasn’t trying to cheat or anything…  but rules are rules, I guess!  lol

Northern Lights

Have any of you readers out there been watching the Olympics?  Did you see the Northern Lights in the Opening Ceremony?  I immediately thought of Animal Crossing when I saw the aurora borealis being recreated on stage!  😛  This ‘light show’ occured on 2/13, when Squirt was on his way to visit Japan!  He was going to visit オレンジ and to pick up a copy of the new JP DLC:  the Emperor’s Cap!

Squirt is the Emperor KING!

We had a good laugh about how Squirt looked wearing the Emperor’s Cap and the King’s Beard.  We laughed even more when Orenji’s friend ときーさん entered the town, ALSO wearing a King’s Beard!

Nice Beards!

It was very nice to visit Japan once again!  I had not visited Orenji’s town in a while so it was a lot of fun to hang out!  ありがとうございます オレンジーさん!

The next day was Valentine’s Day!  While I had plans with my RL Valentine ❤ I did manage to log in and find out who was crushing on Squirt this year.  He had sent some hybrid flowers to Agent S in hopes of gaining her love.  So he was very pleased to discover this Valentine Card in his mailbox:

V-Day Card

But then when Squirt talked to Agent S later that day, she said that she didn’t think she’d ever find the right guy for her…?  Squirt was so distraught by what Agent S said that he didn’t even remember to get his special cup of hot cocoa from Brewster, which is only available on Valentine’s Day!  Oh well, there was no time to dwell on this because the following day was FESTIVALE!

Viva Festivale!

Confetti filled the air, and Deb decided to log in and participate in Festivale because she hadn’t experienced it yet.  For those of you out there who might have their dates turned back and haven’t done Festivale this year, here’s a little reminder of how the event works:

  • You will need a LOT of candy.  Many people find that the best strategy for this is to simply stock up on candy during Halloween.
  • First, you must go and speak with Pavé, who will tell you what color candy he wants at the current time.
  • Second, you gather the candy (if you were lucky enough to have the right color) and give it to Pavé.  Don’t forget (cuz I did!) that Pavé will only accept THREE of whatever color he requested!  He’s not cool like Jack was on Halloween, Pavé is very picky and demanding!
  • If you did not have the right color candy, then it’s time to play some games with the townies!  Most people agree that it makes life easier if you follow this strategy:
    • Push any townies you find into the area around the Town Hall.  Dig holes around the townies so that they can’t escape.
    • Invite friends over to help you!  Pavé gives a LOT of repeats so get all the help you can!
    • Be careful, the games you play with the townies are all CHANCE.  If you lose, they will either take a candy from your pocket or take 500 bells!  Be prepared.
    • You can’t play games with the same townie twice.  You must go to a different townie before returning to one you’d spoken with before.

Deb tried to collect as much of the Pavé Series as she could, but doing it all on her own got a bit tedious.  Plus I already have the full set so I wasn’t really trying that hard.  But then later that day, I logged in as Squirt to send some mail to my sister.  That was when I discovered one last tip about Festivale:  WEAR A MATCHING COSTUME!

Squirt's Costume

King Squirt wears this outfit everyday (as you well know) so he didn’t even think about the fact that he was wearing a costume.  But when he talked to any townie roaming around, they would comment that they liked his costume and gave him FREE CANDY!  So that’s an extra way to earn a few pieces of candy without even trying.

Here is Twinx’s newly updated Pavé Room, complete with the new Pavé Clock EU DLC that was released recently!

Pavé Room

It’s not exactly the coolest furniture series, but I don’t mind it as much as SOME people do.  😉 Hehehehe!

Before I go, in some general Shaolin News, I changed the pathway that leads to the Museum so that it is now lined with K.K. Slider songs.  They are really cute and I think it looks nice.  What do you guys think?

New MuseoPath

And finally, someone has decided to leave Shaolin.  Peaches, the clown horse, is packing her bags!  She might even be gone already, I didn’t log in to play ACCF yet today.

So long, Peaches.

See ya in the city, Peaches!  We had a good run.  But it’s time for her to go back to the circus!  lol 😛

Monday

It’s Groundhog’s Day!  Oh boy.  I got my Resetti model.  That’s about it for the excitement of the holiday.

AM turnip price is 85 bells.

Had my friend Pal visit again, as she is from the UK, and they don’t celebrate this silly holiday!  And while she was over, a new friend named Rani came to visit from Japan!  It was very nice to meet someone new, especially if they live so far away!  Rani got her Resetti model too, and stayed for a chat.  She spoke very good english, and was telling us about a small volcano that went off in Japan, and it’s currently raining ash there!  Must be very scary feeling…  I’m just glad I live on the East Coast of the USA, no volcanos or fault lines here (at least we don’t think so!).
