Wasabi Send-Off Issue

Going Out with a BANG!

The Wasabi News will be going on hiatus with the upcoming release of Animal Crossing New Leaf in North America on June 9th.  On this date, the Glux Blog will be reporting on the English game.  The Wasabi News will continue on, but in a different way.  Mayor Neko would like to thank everyone for being such loyal readers and following the events of her town for the past six months!  For more up-to-date information on Wasabi Village, please be sure to follow the Glux Box on Tumblr.

But before the Wasabi News turns off the presses, there was so much big news this week that we had to do one final issue!  As Lyle would say, “The Wasabi News is going out with a BANG!”

NOOKINGTON’S UPGRADE

As was rumored, following Mayor Neko’s fourth positive fashion evaluation from Gracie Grace, construction began on Main Street on June 3rd.  The entire village waited impatiently for the world-class department store Nookington’s to open!  This final store upgrade features three stories of shopping splendor!  The first floor has all your daily needs, from tools and records to flower seeds and fertilizer.  The second floor sells a wide variety of furniture, carpets and wallpaper options to decorate your home.  The third floor is home to the world famous Gracie Grace Boutique, and the shop is run by the Fashionista him/herself!  While Gracie’s prices might be sky high, the furniture is deluxe and exclusive, and every clothing purchase comes gift-wrapped.  Mayor Neko was quick to pick up some new fashions for the summer!

ONE MILLION BELLS

Mayor Neko isn’t worried about the astronomical prices in the new boutique.  That’s because she recently achieved a great feat – saving ฿1,000,000 in her bank account!  The Post Office even sent her a rare and adorable Piggy Bank to commemorate the occasion.  Well done, Mayor Neko!  Don’t spend it all on one crown!

SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE

Temperatures have been rising rapidly.  It is not advised to wear long sleeve shirts.  On 6/4, an intense thunderstorm wracked Wasabi Village for the entire day.  Thunder and lightning was observed, even from indoors.  The townies had high spirits tho, and simply sported hats and umbrellas to keep dry!

TARANTULA!!!

Now that summer is in effect, many new (and large and scary) insects have been spotted roaming Wasabi and hanging on trees.  One of the most fearsome of these summer bugs is the poisonous Tarantula, which can cause you to faint after just one bite.  Mayor Neko had been searching for a Tarantula since the first of the month, but it wasn’t until 6/5 that the giant spider was spotted.  Mayor Neko told the Wasabi News, “We have a lot of flowers in Wasabi, so I was having a hard time finding the Tarantula.  I finally decided to just walk very slowly and really check every inch of town to find this insect.  We can’t risk one of the townies being bit!  I saw the Tarantula crawling by the river.  At the time I had my shovel out, so I approached the Tarantula, knowing that he’d try to run away instead of attacking.  A Tarantula will only attack if you have your net out.  I chased the Tarantula into a more wide open area, and as he started scurrying away, I fumbled to get my net out.  I must have gotten really lucky – the moment I switched to the net was when the Tarantula was facing away from me, since he was trying to escape.  Immediately I turned and swung the net, before the Tarantula had time to react!  I caught it and nobody was hurt!”  The Tarantula was safely donated to the Wasabi Museum, where it is now on display in the Bug Exhibit.

SURPRISE VISIT

On 6/7, Mayor Neko was swimming in the ocean and doing a bit of diving.  She spotted a somewhat large shadow and dove deep into the water to chase it down.  When the Mayor swam back up, she realized she was holding a rare Scallop.  Quickly after, she realized that someone was swimming up behind her.  The seafaring beaver Pascale was looking to make a trade!  He wanted Mayor Neko to give him the Scallop, in exchange for some words of wisdom and an exclusive pirate ship furniture item.  In the end, Mayor Neko came home with an Anchor… but that also means there is still no Scallop in the Wasabi Museum.

Mayor Neko’s Makeovers!

Recently, Mayor Neko stumbled across some really cool QR code designs.  Most of them can be found on Tumblr, or shared on the super-fun Animal Crossing group called ACUKE.  One pattern particularly appealed to Mayor Neko – the Team Rocket Grunt Dress!  Mayor Neko downloaded the QR code, and also ordered a black cap, gray socks and black boots to complete the ensemble.  Looking pretty devious there, Mayor Neko!  For those who are interested, here is the QR code for the Team Rocket Grunt Dress.

972033_530947430297789_391140061_n

Keep in mind, you have to become friends with Sable at the Able Sister’s Shop before you can unlock the ability to scan QR codes!  Here’s another tip:  If you are having trouble scanning a QR code from an image you are viewing on your mobile device, try turning up the brightness of the screen of your gadget!

However, not everybody was pleased with Mayor Neko’s fashion choice.  Someone must have called in Gracie Grace to try and convince the Mayor to change her look, because on 6/1 the Fashionista was back in Wasabi!  Gracie asked Mayor Neko to try a “Rock” outfit.  Sounds cool!  After a bit of research, it turns out that Mayor Neko already had a complete rock ensemble…  it was her Varia Suit!  No need to scramble around trying to order a costume from the catalog this time around.  Mayor Neko simply swapped outfits with the mannequin that was already wearing the Varia Suit, and then Mayor Neko rushed right back to Gracie.

This was definitely Mayor Neko’s easiest fashion evaluation!  After looking at the list of Rock style clothing, Mayor Neko has decreed that Rock Style is the best clothing style available.  From Bone Shirts to Zebra print… Rock is the coolest!  Gracie was very pleased with Mayor Neko’s cosplay, and rewarded her with a Gracie Shelf.  (Apparently since it is now June, Gracie no longer gives out the Princess series as a reward.  Boo hoo!)  The best news resulting from Gracie’s visit is a rumor now swirling around Wasabi.  Word on the street says that once Gracie gives four positive fashion evaluations, she will consider opening up a store in town.  Only time will tell!  Check back next week!

MUSEUM UPDATE

Once again, Mayor Neko has made a generous donation to the Wasabi Museum.  On 5/31, Crazy Redd had visited once again, and Mayor Neko had her sleuthing cap on!  After rejecting some very obvious fakes (Venus statue with long hair?  A giant winged statue – but with bat wings??  You’ll have to try harder than that, Redd!), Mayor Neko discovered that the Proper Painting for sale has no known forgeries!  So it HAD to be real!  (For those who don’t like to guess, this website has photos of all the artwork Redd might be selling, and shows the real and fake versions.  Become an art history expert in no time!)  The Proper Painting is now on display in the Art Exhibit!

NEW MAYOR VISITS WASABI

As the North American launch date fast approaches, more and more Mayors are coming onto Mayor Neko’s radar.  A new Mayor on the scene, Mayor Lizzie, stopped by in Wasabi on 5/31 to pick up some welcoming gifts from Mayor Neko.  She showed Mayor Lizzie around town, and they had a lot of fun!  Keep in mind, all you prospective Mayors, that Mayor Neko has been stocking up on fruit baskets to give to new Mayors!  If you’d like a particular type of fruit basket, please let Shizue and Mayor Neko know by commenting on this blog, or by visiting the Glux Blog on Facebook!

PUBLIC WORKS UPDATE

The most random and useless Public Work project in Wasabi has been completed.  Mayor Neko put on a brave face at the inauguration ceremony and smiled nicely, but rumors are coming in that she is not very pleased with the latest project – the Sand Pit.  Mayor Neko had hoped the Sand Pit would actually be functional as a Zen Garden.  This apparently is not the case.  So far the only use that has been found for this Sand Pit is to plant flowers in it.  Who plants flowers in sand??  Mayor Neko was reported as saying that she is considering demolishing the Sand Pit soon.

NEW DLC AVAILABLE

A lot of DLC has been announced with the fast approaching North American release of Animal Crossing: New Leaf!  There have been some monthly DLC distribution items announced, as well as a Best Buy SpotPass promotion for DLC.  Mayor Neko already downloaded the latest DLC, which is a Rainbow Screen!  This DLC can be obtained by speaking with either Pelly or Phyllis at the Post Office.  For more information about the upcoming DLC, visit the Animal Crossing website!  (Scroll down and click “In-Game Gifts” for details!)

Editor’s Note:  Please excuse the Wasabi News, as we prepare to go on a brief hiatus.  With the North American version of the game coming out on 6/9, the Glux Blog will likely be taking over reporting on the English game more than the Japanese game.  Don’t worry, Wasabi isn’t going anywhere and the Wasabi News will continue to publish updates!  But it might not be as frequently as readers have come to expect.  Also please stay tuned for GluxBox to report LIVE FROM E3 during the next week!

Week of 5/19 – 5/25

Subterranean Discovery!

Last week, Wasabi News readers might remember that the Manhole Cover public work had been completed.  For over a week the Manhole Cover lay in the ground, unchanged and seemed more like a decoration than anything else.  But sometime after 8PM on 5/20, Mayor Neko nearly stumbled down the Manhole!  The cover was lifted, and a bright light was emanating from down below.  (Anyone having a flashback from the TV show “Lost” right now??)  Without knowing what to expect, Mayor Neko cautiously jumped in and headed below ground.

At first, all Mayor Neko found underground was a long and creepy corridor.  It was pretty dark, and the Mayor admitted afterwards that she was a bit scared.  But curiosity got the best of her, and she walked all the way down the hall to where she assumed the source of the light was located.

Mayor Neko was extremely surprised to find what she did.  “It was pretty rank down there, between the smell of old pizza and garbage, to that wet mildew odor that sticks to the air underground…” Mayor Neko was quoted as saying to King after her visit.  In addition to the garbage, there was an old TV, some chairs, lockers, and of course… Resetti himself!  Apparently Mayor Neko had stumbled into Resetti’s Surveillance Center, and the mole in charge was not pleased!

Instead of giving the Mayor a proper greeting, Resetti rudely berated Mayor Neko for being where she did not belong.  (As the Mayor, shouldn’t she have full access to every part of town?)  After angrily ranting to the Mayor, Resetti decided to ignore her and watch his TV until she went away.

Before retreating back to the surface, Mayor Neko noticed a small area off to the side of the Surveillance Center.  There was a toilet!  She had to try it out, even though it was a bit unsanitary – she couldn’t close the stall door!  The toilet flushed itself when she got up.  Gross.  Resetti didn’t even mutter a “goodbye” when Mayor Neko walked back down the creepy hallway to leave.  Mayor Neko has pledged to speak to Shizue about turning off the cable access in the Surveillance Center.  It seemed a lot more like a break room than anything else!  Why should Mayor Neko have spent ฿398,000 for Resetti to have a place to watch TV??

MUSEUM UPDATE

Blathers, the curator of the Wasabi Museum, is extremely proud to announce the unveiling of a very famous artwork in the Art Exhibit.  Mayor Neko generously donated a Michaelangelo!  The Statue of David was donated to the Wasabi Museum Art Exhibit on 5/21.  This enormous statue was set up in the second room of the Exhibit.  It seems the placement is kind of amusing – it looks as though the ladies of the Van Gogh paintings in the background are checking him out!

A LESSON IN MODERN FASHION…

There was even more excitement on 5/21, this time at the Town Plaza.  The infamous fashion guru Gracie Grace was standing in the rain, waiting to be judgmental about one thing or another.  Mayor Neko asked what the theme was this time, and did her best Japanese sleuthing to determine that the style requested for this visit was Modern.  Not sure what to wear, Mayor Neko consulted with her colleague Mayor Yumi to find an outfit that would pass the test.

Mayor Yumi helped out Mayor Neko by supplying a “modern ensemble.”  All of the clothes and accessories fit the Modern theme – who said they had to match??  For the record, Mayor Neko wore an Airy Shirt, a Dark Polka Skirt, Ellipse Shades and Sabot shoes.  Mayor Neko practiced her modeling technique in Kasen Village (of course Nelson was creepily hovering close by to catch a glimpse!) before heading back to rainy Wasabi to take her fashion exam.

Even though she felt that she looked super silly, Mayor Neko passed the test!  Gracie Grace did the usual spin of approval, and handed over a coveted item from the Princess furniture series, which is a Gracie exclusive.  Mayor Neko displayed her new item, the Princess Dresser, in her home, which is quickly filling up and needing more expansions.  Now Mayor Neko only needs one more successful fashion evaluation before the final upgrade to the Nook Shop will be available!  Good luck, Mayor Neko!

PUBLIC WORKS UPDATES

This week was a busy one for Shizue!  Several Public Works projects were funded and constructed this week.  In chronological order:

5/21 – Big Red Shoe Bench!

5/22 – Enclosure/Garden

5/24 – Rose Arch at the Mayor’s Estate

Currently in the funding stage right now is the Sand Pit, which is expected to be completed by the next issue of Wasabi News.  Stay tuned!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TOWNIES!

This week, two Wasabi villagers celebrated their birthdays!  On 5/22 it was Kitt’s birthday, and 5/24 was Derry’s birthday!  Many happy returns to you both!  Mayor Neko was in attendance at Derry’s party, but is sad to admit that she kind of forgot to go to Kitt’s party.  Sorry Kitt!

Week of 4/21 – 4/27

Happy Birthday, Mayor Neko!

There was a big celebration in Wasabi on Sunday, 4/21!  It was Mayor Neko’s birthday, and the villagers were not about to let the day go by without a surprise party for the Mayor!  Wendy greeted Mayor Neko outside of her house and invited her to a party at Wendy’s house.  When Mayor Neko walked in, she was so happy to see that her favorite townies were all waiting to celebrate with her!  The party go-ers were Wendy, Teddy and of course, the King!  They started the party with a big birthday greeting and some dancing.

After a few minutes, they decided it was time to have some cake.  Wendy turned down the lights and the candles were lit.  Mayor Neko made a wish, took a deep breath and blew out the candles!  Party poppers were popped and confetti flew through the air!  It was very exciting.

After the candle ceremony, everyone at the party continued to dance the night away!  The party decorations were so cute, there was a party table and an adorable cake set up in the center of the room.  Most of Wendy’s normal furniture had been moved out of the way.  A big “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” sign was displayed on an easel too!  All of the party guests were wearing cute little party hats.  Mayor Neko wished she could have a party hat too!  That was when Wendy handed Mayor Neko a wrapped present.  Inside was something really cool – a pair of Birthday Cake sunglasses!

Mayor Neko wishes to thank her friends for throwing her a very special Birthday Party!  Happy Birthday Mayor Neko!

PUBLIC WORKS UPDATE

After a quick fundraising period, the newest Public Works Project has been unveiled!  The Wasabi Traffic Light was installed on 4/23 near the West Bridge, which is a very busy intersection of town.  Now it should be easier to navigate around the area!  Next up is the Classic Windmill project, which is a much pricier amenity for the town.  Wasabi News analysts predict that it might take more than a week for the Classic Windmill to raise the required funding.

MAYOR NEKO’S BIG CATCH

In the evening on 4/25, Mayor Neko went outside, only to find it was raining.  There wasn’t a lot going on in town, so she thought perhaps she’d do a bit of fishing.  Mayor Neko had heard fables of an elusive “living fossil” fish called the Coelacanth, which supposedly can only be caught in the ocean while it’s raining.  Wanting to seize the moment, she headed down to the beach.  After catching many unwanted Sea Bass, Mayor Neko noticed a big shadow in the water, and it was a little longer than the ones she’d been seeing.  With a deep breath, she cast her line and hoped for the best.  Much to her delight, a giant Coelacanth was at the end of the line!  Mayor Neko generously donated the giant Coelacanth to the Wasabi Museum, so it is now available for public viewing.

GRACIE GRACE RETURNS

All this rainy weather can’t stop everyone’s favorite fashionista!  Gracie Grace patiently waited at the Town Plaza in the rain on 4/27 to present Mayor Neko with the latest fashion challenge.

The requested clothing style was “Bunan” which translates to safe, or subtle.  Nothing too crazy for Gracie today!  Something more on the simpler side seemed to be in order.  Mayor Neko reached out to her awesome neighbor, Mayor Yumi of Kasen.  Together they raided their closets to see if any subtle clothing could be found.  Mayor Yumi brought over a pair of glasses, shoes and socks to try.  Mayor Neko realized that the striped shirt she was wearing was also on the subtle list!

Both Mayors were relieved to see that Gracie approved of the outfit, did her little happy dance and handed over a gift to Mayor Neko.  This time she had earned a Princess Sofa!  It’s quite plush and comfy.  Now Mayor Neko only needs one more positive fashion evaluation to earn the Department Store upgrade for the Nook Shop!

MUSEUM UPDATE

On that same rainy evening on 4/27, Mayor Neko was walking past Wendy.  She stopped by to say hello as she always does.  Wendy was very excited about something, and was asking Mayor Neko to give her over ฿4,000 in exchange for something.  The Mayor was in a good mood and agreed to pay, without even knowing what was in store.  Wendy handed over a furniture item and Mayor Neko quickly rushed home to see what it was.  Much to her surprise, Wendy had sold a painting to the Mayor!  Who knew that the citizens of Wasabi were such art collectors?  First it was King, then Anthony (albeit the one he sold the Mayor was fake) and now Wendy?!  Mayor Neko submitted the painting for review at the Wasabi Museum.  Blathers was all a-flutter when he saw the painting – it was real!

WASABI SAYS GOODBYE

In a stroke of terrible luck, the town of Wasabi has lost yet another resident.  Tiffany the rabbit has decided that it is time for her to move on to another town.  Mayor Neko has issued a statement:  “We are saddened to hear that our dear friend Tiffany is packing up today.  We wish her luck in all her future endeavors, and hope to see her around at the Strip Mall some time.”  Mayor Yumi was also present to say good bye.

NEW DLC AVAILABLE

Mayor Neko received some new DLC on 4/27 via post.  It was a Gold Clock, from the Gold Series.  For those who don’t know, you can create the Gold Series yourself by collecting Gold Ore and speaking to the Alpacas at the Recycling Shop.  While Mayor Neko of course is thankful for the generous gift from Nintendo, she admitted to the Wasabi News that she thought the DLC was “…pretty random.  But it’s worth quite a lot of money!”

Wasabi Pranks Mayor Neko!

This week was quite the exciting one for the town of Wasabi!  After an exhilarating Bunny Day (see the special issue will full coverage of this fun holiday!), more surprises were in store for Mayor Neko!  The following day, 4/1, was April Fool’s Day!  It seemed as though all the townies were in on the joke, and poor Mayor Neko was the one being pranked!  There was a mysterious character in town that day, a white cat with no face!  This cat reminded Mayor Neko of a character she’d once heard of, called Blanca.  However, this mystery person was not Blanca, as you cannot draw on their face, and also this character seemed like a boy.  Let’s call him Blanco instead.  He was working with the townies to prank the Mayor.  Every time Mayor Neko stepped into a townie’s house, there seemed to be clones in each home!  Blanco was impersonating each villager, and it was up to Mayor Neko to determine who was the real townie and who was the fake.  (Not being able to understand Japanese made this quite a difficult feat!)

Here’s how it works:  You walk into a townie’s home.  If you see two of the townie (see above photo, there were two Wendy’s inside!) then you know an elaborate prank is in the works.  When you talk to the townie-clones, they will begin to argue with each other, seemingly trying to convince you that they each are the legitimate townie.  If you are observant enough, the townies will drop hints to show their true identity.  They might mention their birthday, or use their special catch-phrase to help you figure out who is the real townie.  But Blanco won’t make it easy, he’ll do his best to make you second-guess your choice!  But if you choose right, you will get an AMAZING prize – a framed photo of the townie!

Mayor Neko did pretty well for herself, securing the photos of Wendy, Anthony and Agent S.  Unfortunately she did not guess correctly when she was at her best friend’s house, King.  That was awkward.

MUSEUM UPDATE

Though she thought it might be a prank at first, Mayor Neko was happy to learn that her latest donation to the Wasabi Museum was in fact a real work of art on 4/1!  While the Wasabi News team is not sure of the actual name of it, the latest exhibit in the Art section of the Museum includes a famous sculpture of what could very well be an alien.  Or, if you’re a Pokemon fan, it kind of looks like a Claydol!  Either way, it’s a real artwork and it’s on display at the Wasabi Museum!

Only a few short days later, on 4/4, Mayor Neko had another stroke of luck, and picked out a lovely still-life painting that was also legitimate!  Blathers was beside himself in disbelief!  Mayor Neko has had quite a good eye at picking out historical artworks lately!  Keep up the good work, Mayor!

PUBLIC WORKS UPDATE

Right on schedule, the latest Public Works project was completed on 4/2!  This new facility is a Japanese Lamp Post, the first of likely many light posts which will brighten up the town at night.  This Japanese Lamp Post is located just off to the left of the Town Hall, and is located between to the two small ponds in that area of town.  It should make pond-fishing a little easier at night!  Safety first!  After the celebration of the newest Public Works project, Mayor Neko was surprised to see some strange new requests in her folder at Town Hall.  Take a look at what some of the Wasabi Townies have requested to add to their town:

An oil rig??? Seems a bit industrial for the pretty town, don’t you think?

A giant shoe? Is an old woman going to move into it with her many children, so she won’t know what to do?

Smartly, the Mayor opted to add the third and final bridge in Wasabi. This bridge is located conveniently at the center of town, and will be called Central Bridge.

GRACIE GRACE RETURNS, MAKES AMENDS

After last week’s fashion-fiasco, you could probably imagine how Mayor Neko felt when she saw that Gracie Grace had returned to Wasabi on 4/2.  Especially since the Mayor was still running around in her silly bunny costume from over the weekend.  Rather curtly, she spoke to Gracie to find out what fashion disaster ensemble he wanted to see this time.  After a bit of sleuthing (and asking Mayor Aya to help translate) it was determined that Gracie wanted to see a Fancy Outfit.  Quickly, Mayor Neko rushed to see what Mayor Aya might be able to lend her, so that she could pass this fashion evaluation.

Together the Mayors looked at Mayor Aya’s Fashion Closet at the Shakure Museum.  She had rows and rows of clothes lined up.  Apparently there are lots of different clothes for each “style” that Gracie might ask for, and Mayor Aya had taken the time to organize the themed clothes that she has – just for this sort of occasion!  How thoughtful!  Mayor Neko asked if she could borrow the fancy outfit.  Mayor Aya agreed and told her to meet back in Wasabi for the outfit.  It was very exciting!

When Mayor Neko realized what outfit was deemed in the “fancy” category, she was a bit surprised.  Out of all the clothes in AC:NL, including expensive outfits from the GracieGrace store, this is what a fancy outfit consists of??

Mayor Neko, as “The Un-enthused Fancy Santa”.

Was this another one of Gracie’s attempts at making the Mayor look ridiculous?  At this point, the Mayor was out of options and trusted Mayor Aya’s research.  She took a deep breath and walked up to Gracie, bracing herself for another poor review.  Mayor Aya stood by her side, like a good friend, offering emotional support!

Luckily, this time around, Mayor Neko passed the test!  Gracie spun around, did a bit of a happy dance, and yelled something in big letters!  That has to be a good thing, right?  When Mayor Neko was not handed a prize, both Mayors freaked out and panicked a bit.  Then Mayor Neko realized her pockets were full, so she dropped a few things on the ground and spoke to Gracie once again.  This time, Mayor Neko was rewarded with a very rare and EXPENSIVE furniture item – a Princess Table!  Hooray!  That’s one positive fashion evaluation, bringing the town of Wasabi slightly closer to unlocking the renowned Department Store upgrade for the Nook Son’s Store.  A big THANK YOU goes out to Mayor Aya; without her assistance, this would have been another fashion disaster!

This photo depicts many things: On the left, we have the new Princess Table, holding some of the framed photos that Mayor Neko received on April Fool’s Day. Also pictured, the rest of the Egg Series and more framed photos of townies.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PETEY!

Another April Birthday to celebrate!  This past week, on 4/5, Mayor Neko was happy to attend yet another Townie Birthday Party!  This time it was everyone’s favorite deer, Petey’s birthday!  Mayor Neko scrambled to find some wrapping paper, and rushed over to Petey’s house on the east side of Wasabi.  Once again, she walked in to see King as the #1 Party-Goer, celebrating with young Petey.  It seems that King is a real party animal!  (womp-womp)  Many happy returns, Petey!

NEW DLC AVAILABLE

More DLC has been released!  This week we had two new items, one from the Post Office, which was a Sakura Clock.  The second was delivered via a letter from Nintendo, and was the latest Campus DLC series installment.  The newest furniture item was a Protractor Table.  Mayor Neko did her best to finally set up her DLC room, which is a bit cramped but fit just about everything inside.  In the photo you can see this week’s newest items, although the clock is a bit cut off.

Week of 3/3 – 3/9

Wasabi Celebrates the Girl’s Festival!

On Sunday, 3/3, a Japanese holiday was celebrated in Wasabi!  The holiday is known as the Girl’s Festival, or the Doll Festival.  In order to appropriately celebrate the festival, Mayor Neko stocked up on the Doll Display, the Cherry Blossom Lantern, and a delicious Hishi Mochi (that three layered cake on a stand you see pictured).  She threw in a regular doll for good measure.  In addition to having all this fun stuff out on display, Shizue was waiting at the Town Plaza with more festivities!  There was a Photo Board set up, and Shizue was dressed up in the same kimono as the Mayor!  Awkward…

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

On 3/4, Mayor Neko received communication from Mayor Aya that the infamous fashion designer Gracie was in her town, demanding to see a modern outfit.  Not being able to see for herself if anything of her’s was “modern style” due to the language barrier, Mayor Neko invited Mayors Aya and Yumi to visit Wasabi and try to collaborate.  Together they checked all the shops, as well as Mayor Neko’s Closet Room to see if anything modern could be found.  Despite their best efforts (and a game crash) the Mayors were not able to procure anything modern for Mayor Aya.  Luckily, Mayor Aya has reported that she did have one modern style clothing item and barely passed Gracie’s evaluation.  Congratulations, Mayor Aya!

PUBLIC WORKS UPDATES

When one project is completed, another begins!

3/6 – Mayor’s Fountain Completed

Nobody was more excited than Mayor Neko herself when the Mayor’s Fountain was finally completed.  The fountain adds more beauty and “upper-class-ness” to the Mayor’s Estate, which has pleased Mayor Neko very much.  She has plans to add more details to her vast estate grounds, but has stated, “I vow to fund at least three Public Works before making more improvements on my personal estate.  I realize that the town comes first, and will not allocate more time and funds on my estate than I do on Wasabi as a whole.”

3/7 – Town Hall Upgrade

Staying true to her word, the very next day the Mayor set in motion a vast reconstruction project to redesign the face of the Town Hall building.  There were a few different style options, from Modern Architecture, to the Russian “Onion Dome” style, but Mayor Neko opted to go with the Traditional Japanese style.  The accompanying photo is a preview of what the Town Hall is going to look like upon completion.  Mayor Neko would like the Wasabi News to remind all readers that this construction project will be a huge undertaking and likely will take at least a week to complete the fundraising.  The total cost of this project is ฿498,000, so all donations are welcome!

MUSEUM UPDATE: FOSSILS ALMOST COMPLETE

Mayor Neko always tries to visit and check in on all areas of Wasabi as often as possible.  But with so many new public works and shops opening up, it’s sometimes hard to really check everything diligently.  When Mayor Neko randomly remembered to look at the Fossil Exhibit in the Wasabi Museum, she was very surprised!  It seems that the exhibit is almost 100% complete!  The only fossil that is missing in the Wasabi Museum is the Dinosaur Egg Fossil (we think).  Mayor Neko would like the Wasabi News to ask all readers to keep an eye out for a spare Dino Egg fossil that she can donate to the Museum.

NEW CAMPUS DLC AVAILABLE

Another weekly installment of the Campus DLC series has been delivered by Pete via a letter from Nintendo.  It is not clear to the Wasabi News writers at this time as to WHY some DLC items are delivered through a letter, and others are delivered via SpotPass in the Post Office.  Though the variety of delivery methods does make things a little more interesting!  The newest item is a Campus Bed.  Very similar to the Campus Closet, the Campus Bed is a stack of notebooks that you can lay on.  No guarantees regarding how comfortable this may or may not be…

WASABI OBTAINS PERFECT TOWN STATUS

Mayor Neko is proud to inform the Wasabi News that after speaking with Shizue, she has confirmed that Wasabi Village is now officially a “Perfect Town!”  This means that Wasabi has a perfect balance of trees, flowers and public works to make it a beautiful, perfect place to live!  Now the challenge is to maintain this perfect status.  Mayor Neko has been asking Shizue every day to make sure the town is still perfect.  Rumor has it if Mayor Neko asks and confirms that the town is perfect for 15 days in a row, she will be presented with a special prize!  Stay tuned to see if Mayor Neko can make it happen!

わさびの新聞#5

Week of 2/24 – 3/2

Wasabi Cafe Grand Opening!

Everyone in Wasabi is celebrating the construction of a new building – the Wasabi Cafe!  As promised, Mayor Neko set in motion the funding and construction plans for this new coffeeshop on as soon as the Windmill was completed (see the Public Works section below for more details!) and in less than a week, on 3/1, the doors were open!  Brewster is the owner and main barista at the Wasabi Cafe, and rumors are going around that if you can get on Brewster’s good side, you can get a part-time job working there!  The whole town is very excited about the Wasabi Cafe, as it is sure to attract visitors from all over.  In fact, when Mayor Neko visited the Cafe for her inaugural cup o’ joe, she noticed Kapp’n was already seated inside.  Guess he needed a quick break from all that ferrying back and forth from Wasabi to the Resort Island…

PUBLIC WORKS UPDATES

It has been a busy week for Mayor Neko and the Town Hall.  Two construction projects were completed, and one more has gone into the planning stages.

2/24 – Windmill Completed!

An earth-friendly Windmill has been constructed in Wasabi to bring in some renewable fuel sources.  On a windy day you can hear the “whoosh” of the Windmill from pretty far away!  The townies are all very excited for this new Public Work, especially Teddy, since the Windmill was built right near his house.  Mayor Neko is also quite pleased, she can see the Windmill from her house – it’s right across the river!

3/1 – Cafe is Now Open!

Read our headline story for all the details!  Construction and funding began on 2/25 and only 4 days later, the Cafe was fully funded and constructed.  Mayor Neko attributes the fast turnaround to the “helpful donations of the residents of Wasabi, as well as the Resort Island for having an abundance of rare beetles to sell.”  Thank you to everyone who contributed to this Public Work project!  Blathers, the curator of the Wasabi Museum, was especially pleased to see the coffeeshop, as he and Brewster are old friends.

3/1 – Funding for the Mayor’s Fountain Has Begun

Any Wasabi resident would agree that one of the main attractions of their town is the Mayor’s Estate.  Located in a private nook by the beach, Mayor Neko’s large two story mansion is surrounded by Delicious Cherry Trees and guarded by hedges.  In an effort to make the Mayor’s Estate even more beautiful, Mayor Neko opted to decorate the outside of her house in the Cabana Style.  In addition, Mayor Neko has set up funding for what is being dubbed as the Mayor’s Fountain.  The Mayor’s Fountain is going to be situated right next to the Mayor’s house, overlooking the waterfall and beach area.  The Wasabi News is excited to see the finished product!  Fundraising has already begun, and at the time of printing, the Mayor’s Fountain only needs ฿80,000 to reach completion.  If you’d like to donate, please visit the Gyroid next to Mayor Neko’s house.

SPRING HAS SPRUNG!

Much to everyone’s surprise, spring came early this year in Wasabi!  On 2/25, the snow officially melted away, revealing lush green grass underneath.  While almost everyone is very excited for the new fish and bugs of springtime, only one wasn’t happy about the arrival of spring… the poor Snowman.  😦  For the information of our readers, the Wasabi News would like to remind anyone playing AC:NL that if you have a Snow Daddy, he will not play Snowman Bingo with you once the seasons change.  Be aware!

A NEW PETITION

Occasionally, one of the townies will come up with a brilliant idea for something or other, for which they will want a petition signed.  When this happens, it is up to the Mayor to visit another town to collect signatures.  (That’s right – you cannot simply ask your own townies to sign a petition!  They are obviously biased.)  So when Kitt approached Mayor Neko on 2/26 to have a petition signed, Mayor Neko took it upon herself to visit the neighboring Kasen Village to get the necessary 6 signatures – and also check out the Meteor Shower while she was there!  The Kasen townies were more than happy to oblige, and Mayor Neko’s task was completed easily, leaving plenty of time for her and Mayor Yumi to take some adorable photos.

When you see a shooting star, don’t forget to make a wish!

Double Meteors!

Yumi is wondering why Neko is blushing at creepy Nelson…

Soo… can anyone tell us what the Petition was for, anyway?

NEW CAMPUS DLC AVAILABLE

The latest installment of the Campus DLC series was distributed on 2/27 via a Letter from Nintendo.  This week’s special furniture is the Eraser Bench.  Like the Campus Notebook Closet, this Eraser Bench can be redesigned in a variety of colors, and costs an exorbitant amount of money to buy from the Catalog Machine in the Nook Shops.

NOOKMART STORE EXPANSION

After a quick reconstruction on 2/27, the Nookmart has expanded once again!  This time, the Nookmart is even bigger, and now the Flower Shop next door has a side entrance incorporated directly into the Nookmart!  In addition, there are now 5 furniture items available for sale per day, 2 carpets and 2 wallpapers per day, as well as a new item – K.K. Slider albums!  The Flower Shop has also expanded their inventory, now offering shrubbery on a daily basis.

A MAYOR ABROAD

Being the Mayor of a thriving village is no easy task.  Mayor Neko spends countless hours fundraising for Public Works, checking the Stalk Market for decent prices (the Wasabi Stalk Market maxed out at ฿153 this week, not too great but at least no money was lost), and of course making connections with Mayors from other towns.  This week, Mayor Neko made three trips abroad!  As described earlier in the Wasabi News, Mayor Neko visited Kasen Village on 2/26.  In addition to this, she visited Mayor Zen and Mayor Aya.

Mayor Zen – Zui Village – 3/1

Zui Village has the astounding Department Store!

Visiting with Gracie in the Department Store, and dropping a pretty penny on some fabulous fashions!

A beautiful fountain and plaza in Zui Village

Mayor Aya – Shakure Village – 3/2

It was raining in Shakure – thankfully both Mayors had umbrellas!

A delicious meal was set up on the table in Mayor Aya’s house!

A Japanese themed room in Mayor Aya’s house looks like it is prepared to celebrate Girl’s Day on 3/3!
