Midsummer Night’s Blog Post

Whatttt??  The summer is half over??  I’ve been SOO busy with planning events for StreetPass Long Island and playing the steady stream of awesome Nintendo games that keep coming out that I’ve barely had time to enjoy the weather!  (I am ashamed to admit I have YET to go to the beach this summer.)

Before I get into my latest obsessions, here’s a quick recap of what’s going on in Animal Crossing.  I still have to get the latest Best Buy DLC!  AHH I hope it hasn’t expired yet!!

Gulliver is still suffering from PTSD and amnesia…

Gruff wins the award for most random music request AND most cultured townie in Jubilife. I literally had to look this up to understand what he was talking about. For the record, zydeco style refers to Cajun/Creole.

That’s MAYOR Madam Grooville to you! lol

Visiting the island with some Rando’s from Club Tortimer!

Jubilife townies can sleep easy knowing that we now have official police protection! (Or that they might find something they’ve lost in the Lost and Found.)

Existential questions with Vic.

Old Man Phineas approves of my coffee-making skills!

Won second place in the July Bug Off Tournament. I’d like to say that I purposely won second to get the silver trophy (since I already have the gold), but the real reason is that I was traveling that day and couldn’t devote as much time to the Bug Off!

Dizzy proves that he doesn’t have a clever name, but that he’s actually just drunk.

Still can’t afford this crown… 😦

In all honesty, I just have to thank MYSELF for having a second town on my JP 3DS, and my boyfriend JDubz, with whom I StreetPass ever single day. 🙂

Kapp’n shows his support for the 99%. Also, a bit of insight into his problems with the IRS! lol

Visiting with StreetPass Long Island members. And yes I am wearing a Reggie t-shirt in this photo lol!

T.I.Y. Home Store is officially open!

We’re starting to go GREEN here in Jubilife by installing a new Wind Turbine!

BEST NEWS EVER! Jubilife has officially reached PERFECT TOWN STATUS!!

So now you’re up to date on Jubilife.  I will probably write a special Wasabi News entry later on, since I have some stuff to report.  But here’s the REAL reasons I’ve been so busy lately:

  • New StreetPass Games!  Have you downloaded the latest update for your Nintendo 3DS?  The update includes a redesign of the StreetPass Mii Plaza, which features a more “town-like” atmosphere.  More importantly, you can also download NEW STREETPASS GAMES!  There are four to choose from.  “Mii Force” is a classic arcade shooter style game, using your StreetPass friends to supply different weapons depending on their color.  “Flower Town” is a casual collection game in which you have a beautiful garden and your goal is to grow and document as many flowers as possible, with your frequent StreetPass friends turning into Flower Pals who help you to grow rare breeds.  (You can also build and decorate gardens and take screenshots!  See below.)  “Warrior’s Way” brings new life to the classic Rock-Paper-Scissors game and turns your Mii Plaza into a growing ARMY to help you in a quest for World Domination!  “Monster Manor” is a slow-paced nod to Luigi’s Mansion, except instead of Luigi, you act as your Mii trying to find your way through a haunted house, beating up ghosts and saving your friends from unknown horrors… plus it adds a bit of Tetris to it’s game mechanic!  I love these games because there really is something for everyone.  Another added bonus is the introduction of a new form of currency:  Plaza Tickets!  With Plaza Tickets you can “buy” new hats and outfits for your Mii to wear in the StreetPass world.  Each game does come with a price (of $4.99) but all four can be bundled for a discounted price of $14.99.  Obviously I had to have them ALL!  I highly recommend checking them out.

My first garden in Flower Town.

  • EarthBound has come to Virtual Console!  This classic SNES game is a blast from the past brought to you by the year 199X.  Aliens have invaded Onett and it’s up to Ness to figure out WTF is going on!  I never played this game as a child, my first RPG was Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (Nintendo, please bring this to Wii U VC?  Or… dare I ask… make it a 3D Classic??!?!?) and I didn’t touch RPG’s again until Paper Mario.  To be honest, I’d never even heard of Ness until Super Smash Bros. when he was reintroduced as a fighter.  I could never get his Up+B move to work properly, and had a grudge against him.  But I digress.  When EarthBound came out on Virtual Console for $9.99, I decided it was time to learn what Ness was all about.  Plus I’d been hearing nothing but rave reviews about the game for the past month from my StreetPass buddies.  What’s so great about this game (besides the awesome soundtrack, retro-familiar graphics and awesome RPG action) is the tongue-in-cheek humor and over-the-top storyline.  I REALLY love it!!  To show you a sample, here’s a screenshot I posted to my Miiverse profile.

“At times like this, kids like you should be playing Nintendo games.”

I’m sure you guys can understand now why I haven’t been blogging as frequently as I’d like.  But I promise (like I always do… but this time I SUPER DUPER MEAN IT!!) to make a better effort to post my random updates on what videogames I’m playing and stuff.  (Did I mention I also started a new game in Harvest Moon: A New Beginning?  Yeah…)  So tell me, what games are YOU playing?

Week of 3/10 – 3/16

Public Service Announcement:

Mayor Neko is a Horrible Barista

The Wasabi Cafe has been a hot spot for citizens, socialites, and town workers alike.  Since the day it opened, business has been booming for the Cafe.  Mayor Neko has been a daily patron at the Cafe, and Brewster wanted to reward the Mayor for her support by allowing her to work as a part-time barista.  Unfortunately for the town, this has resulted in disastrous coffee concoctions.  Due to the fact that Mayor Neko does not speak the town’s native Japanese language fluently, she is unable to understand each customer’s specific coffee orders.  Only 1 customer out of the 8-10 that Mayor Neko has served has walked away happy with their beverage.  Not for lack of trying, of course.  Former Mayor Tortimer was quoted as saying, “[Mayor Neko] has unmatched enthusiasm… but the coffee she served was the most horrific cup o’ joe I’ve ever tasted.”  The Wasabi News continues to support Mayor Neko’s efforts, but merely wants to warn all fans of the Wasabi Cafe to lower their expectations if they come in to buy coffee on a day that Mayor Neko is working.

On 3/12, Mayor Neko was contacted by Mayor Yumi of Kasen in regards to a petition that needed signing.  Mayor Neko immediately opened the gates to Wasabi so that Mayor Yumi could take care of her town’s official business.  Mayor Yumi made quick work of her task, and got the signatures needed in record time.  When asked what the petition was for, Mayor Yumi informed Mayor Neko that the Wasabi townies had signed a pledge to “Love Fiercely” (or something along those lines).  The petition had been created by none other than the creepy Nelson of Kasen.  The Wasabi News has warned all of the townies who signed up on this petition to please use caution.  Shizue is currently checking federal watch lists to make sure Nelson hasn’t been involved in any… incidents prior to this petition, as he is known to make suggestive comments to young females in Kasen.

At the time of publication, the latest Public Works project to redesign the face of the Town Hall was still in the funding stages.  Mayor Neko had informed the Wasabi News that at the time of print, only ฿40,000 was needed and that she expected the project to be completed early next week.  As soon as more information is available, we will add the details to our next issue.  Check back next week to see the finished Town Hall face-lift!

A new resident has recently started up a new life in Wasabi.  This new, human resident is named ドラえもん, or Doraemon.  He is named after the famous animated cat from Japan, and he too has an affinity for hooded sweatshirts with big pockets.  Mayor Neko says that Doraemon is her distant cousin and he is looking for a fresh start.  Doraemon is a little shy and hasn’t made a huge impact on Wasabi yet, but the Wasabi News expects big things from him in the near future!

One of Doraemon’s first contributions to the improvement of Wasabi was to inspect Crazy Redd’s artwork for the week.  Not being any more of an expert on the subject of Art History than Mayor Neko, Doraemon did his best to pick the one piece of art that was not a forgery.  The good news is that with two human residents, now both Mayor Neko and Doraemon can both purchase artwork, giving the Wasabi Museum a better chance at obtaining new legitimate paintings and statues.  The even better news is that there is a new painting in the Wasabi Museum, donated by Mayor Neko.

On 3/14, another item from the Campus DLC series was delivered via a message from Nintendo.  The latest decor item in the Campus series is the Campus Wallpaper.  The wallpaper looks like lined, college-ruled notebook paper.  Mayor Neko stated, “It’s a little bland to look at, but it certainly matches the theme of the Campus series.  I’m working on setting up a DLC room in my house, but it’s not ready yet.  Sorry for the mess in this photo!”  Since it is hard to tell, the wallpaper in the accompanying photo is in fact the DLC college-ruled wallpaper.

At the time of publication, the village of Wasabi has continued to maintain the Perfect Town Status.  Mayor Neko has been checking daily with Shizue to ensure this; however, the Mayor believes she might have forgotten to check one day this week.  This means that the tally of dates in a row to check for Perfect Town Status might have been interrupted, and it might take a little longer to receive the bonus prize than was initially stated.  Doraemon is now checking the Perfect Town Status as well, in hopes that he too will receive the prize.  Only time will tell if their hard work pays off!  Some of the townies have noticed that Mayor Neko has been secretly collecting all the Jacob’s Ladder flowers that have been popping up, and she is reportedly hoarding them at the Mayor’s Estate, despite her vow to not work on improvements to her estate until she works on 3 Public Works for the town.  King was quoted saying, “As long as she’s only taking flowers for her estate, it’s not such a big deal.  After all, my house is surrounded by an insurmountable number of posies and hybrids, why shouldn’t the Mayor’s house be the same?”  Another anonymous townie overheard King’s quote and muttered, “I heard the Mayor has a gold rose on her estate now, too.  Figures that the royal villagers in town would defend the Mayor on a topic like this…”

  • 3/31/13 – Bunny Day
    • Special Guest:  The Easter Bunny
    • Spend the day hunting for eggs!  Eggs can be found in the ground, floating in balloons, hiding in trees, even in the river!  Rumors claim that you can even go diving and find Easter Eggs during this holiday.
    • Inside each egg is a special foil which can be used to trade in for the limited edition Egg Series.
  • 4/1/13 – April Fool’s Day
    • Special Guest:  Blanca
    • Be careful – the villagers are set to play pranks on you!

Week of 3/3 – 3/9

Wasabi Celebrates the Girl’s Festival!

On Sunday, 3/3, a Japanese holiday was celebrated in Wasabi!  The holiday is known as the Girl’s Festival, or the Doll Festival.  In order to appropriately celebrate the festival, Mayor Neko stocked up on the Doll Display, the Cherry Blossom Lantern, and a delicious Hishi Mochi (that three layered cake on a stand you see pictured).  She threw in a regular doll for good measure.  In addition to having all this fun stuff out on display, Shizue was waiting at the Town Plaza with more festivities!  There was a Photo Board set up, and Shizue was dressed up in the same kimono as the Mayor!  Awkward…

On 3/4, Mayor Neko received communication from Mayor Aya that the infamous fashion designer Gracie was in her town, demanding to see a modern outfit.  Not being able to see for herself if anything of her’s was “modern style” due to the language barrier, Mayor Neko invited Mayors Aya and Yumi to visit Wasabi and try to collaborate.  Together they checked all the shops, as well as Mayor Neko’s Closet Room to see if anything modern could be found.  Despite their best efforts (and a game crash) the Mayors were not able to procure anything modern for Mayor Aya.  Luckily, Mayor Aya has reported that she did have one modern style clothing item and barely passed Gracie’s evaluation.  Congratulations, Mayor Aya!

When one project is completed, another begins!

3/6 – Mayor’s Fountain Completed

Nobody was more excited than Mayor Neko herself when the Mayor’s Fountain was finally completed.  The fountain adds more beauty and “upper-class-ness” to the Mayor’s Estate, which has pleased Mayor Neko very much.  She has plans to add more details to her vast estate grounds, but has stated, “I vow to fund at least three Public Works before making more improvements on my personal estate.  I realize that the town comes first, and will not allocate more time and funds on my estate than I do on Wasabi as a whole.”

3/7 – Town Hall Upgrade

Staying true to her word, the very next day the Mayor set in motion a vast reconstruction project to redesign the face of the Town Hall building.  There were a few different style options, from Modern Architecture, to the Russian “Onion Dome” style, but Mayor Neko opted to go with the Traditional Japanese style.  The accompanying photo is a preview of what the Town Hall is going to look like upon completion.  Mayor Neko would like the Wasabi News to remind all readers that this construction project will be a huge undertaking and likely will take at least a week to complete the fundraising.  The total cost of this project is ฿498,000, so all donations are welcome!

Mayor Neko always tries to visit and check in on all areas of Wasabi as often as possible.  But with so many new public works and shops opening up, it’s sometimes hard to really check everything diligently.  When Mayor Neko randomly remembered to look at the Fossil Exhibit in the Wasabi Museum, she was very surprised!  It seems that the exhibit is almost 100% complete!  The only fossil that is missing in the Wasabi Museum is the Dinosaur Egg Fossil (we think).  Mayor Neko would like the Wasabi News to ask all readers to keep an eye out for a spare Dino Egg fossil that she can donate to the Museum.

Another weekly installment of the Campus DLC series has been delivered by Pete via a letter from Nintendo.  It is not clear to the Wasabi News writers at this time as to WHY some DLC items are delivered through a letter, and others are delivered via SpotPass in the Post Office.  Though the variety of delivery methods does make things a little more interesting!  The newest item is a Campus Bed.  Very similar to the Campus Closet, the Campus Bed is a stack of notebooks that you can lay on.  No guarantees regarding how comfortable this may or may not be…

Mayor Neko is proud to inform the Wasabi News that after speaking with Shizue, she has confirmed that Wasabi Village is now officially a “Perfect Town!”  This means that Wasabi has a perfect balance of trees, flowers and public works to make it a beautiful, perfect place to live!  Now the challenge is to maintain this perfect status.  Mayor Neko has been asking Shizue every day to make sure the town is still perfect.  Rumor has it if Mayor Neko asks and confirms that the town is perfect for 15 days in a row, she will be presented with a special prize!  Stay tuned to see if Mayor Neko can make it happen!

Tuesday AM

Last night at 1 AM I was playing in an attempt to find a stringfish.  No such luck.  However, when I went to Town Hall, I talked with Phyllis and she gave me the gold watering can!  My perfect town is now complete!  Now I can do whatever I want in my town, woo hoo!

AM turnip price is 78 bells.  Uh oh, maybe I should have sold last night!

  • Cube wants a pill bug.

I decided to go visit Katrina to get my weekly fortune.  Let’s decipher it:

Immediately next to Jem is a massive black hole, spinning wildly out of control…  It has the power to suck everything in…  Jem is holding strong, but all we can do is sit back and watch…  My, my, my…  The stars surrounding you are not happy at all.  Misfortune may fall upon you…  I cannot say exactly what might happen…  but I can say that worrying over it will do you no good.  Try to think positively, and remember that panic will draw misfortune’s cruel hand ever closer.  … That is all.

Ummm uh oh!  That doesn’t sound very good.  Looks like I’m in for some bad luck!  I wonder if that means I’m going to be stumbling around all day.  That would be kinda funny!

I caved in and bought the Gorgeous Bed from GracieGrace for 300,000 bells.  I just really like it!  I’ll wait til I’m rich next winter to buy the whole series, but I really wanted to have the canopy bed in my house, up in the attic.  It’ll be my inspiration to get the rest!

PM turnip price went down to 71 bells.  Grr!

Tuesday AM

Last night I went to the town hall to check on the environment to see what needed to be done to get the Perfect Town status.  Phyllis was there and read me the comment “Fantastic!  Shaolin is in great shape right now!  Yep, it’s pretty sweeeeet!”  I was shocked!  I thought there were still some problem areas, according to my grid.  Some squares still needed flowers, and one didn’t have enough trees.  So I was a little confused.

Then this morning, I went to the town hall and Pelly just read me the same comment.  Apparently I have a Perfect Town already!  Now I just have to check back for the next 13 days.  Because I’m assuming yesterday was day one, this is now day two.  Ooh now I’m going to go look for Jacob’s Ladders!  Those flowers are cute.

Perfect Town Status

Perfect Town Status

Turnips are going for 64 bells today.  Sigh…

  • Jambette wants me to get a gray tartan for her.  Umm ok?
  • Monique wants Squirt to tell Twinx to talk to her about ‘accessories.’

Friday PM

Been working painstakingly to divide the town up into a grid of 16×16 squares so I can work on achieving Perfect Town status.  It’s a lot more annoying than I thought it would be!  Finally I realized I should just drop a pattern down to make the grid, so I can walk around town freely.  But ughhh!

Turnips PM price is 38 bells.  How much lower can it go??

Made a perfect snowman again, got a Snowman Clock.

That’s it for the PM report!
