The Countdown Begins!

It’s time for a regular blog post.  I know I’ve been doing a lot of Wasabi News and random posts about Nintendo and body wash, and for those looking for a bit more… well, I apologize.  Life keeps me busy but I try to make time to post what I know the majority of my readers want to see, at least once a week.  Today I want to make some announcements, so here’s a BONUS REGULAR POST!!

ANNOUNCEMENT 1:

There’s only 30 more days to wait until the release of Animal Crossing: New Leaf!  I’m sure it’s no surprise that I am SUPER EXCITED!  I’ll be downloading the digital version of this game at 12AM on 6/9.  I’ve waited long enough, dammit!  I don’t really care about the box art, yes I’m sure it’s very nice but it’s just more important to me to have AC:NL with me at all times, and I don’t have to worry about finding/losing the game cartridge.  (Yes, I’ll still have to worry about losing my 3DS…  lol!  But that’s always a concern.  I keep it close to me always!)  I can’t wait until I won’t have to carry about both my Pikachu 3DS XL and my JP 3DS daily.  I’ll still play in Wasabi occasionally but my new game will be my “main game.”  Wasabi, most of the time, will be staying at home, unless there’s a big AC:NL event to attend and I’ll bring it with me to get extra StreetPasses!

Speaking of which… I am still toying with names for my US AC:NL town.  I’m pretty much decided that I want to use a Pokemon town name.  Keep in mind that preliminary underground press is reporting that you might not be able to have a town name that is longer than 7 characters.  So I’m trying to find the perfect, short Pokemon town name for my game.  Wanna help me pick the town name?  Here’s what I’m toying with:

  • Azalea [Town] – Johto
  • Eterna [City] – Sinnoh
  • Jubilife [City] – Sinnoh (I really love this one but I’m pretty sure it’s too long!  Wahhh!)
  • Nimbasa [City] – Unova
  • Olivine [City] – Johto
  • Pallet [Town] – Kanto

For those wondering, all the Hoenn region town names are really long, so those are pretty much out.  What do you think?  Any suggestions?

ANNOUNCEMENT 2:

Today begins the registration from the latest Pokemon B/W/B2/W2 WIFI Tournament, called the 2013 Spring Friendly.  Since I missed the past couple of WIFI Tournaments, I do plan to participate in this one.  Registration is open from 5/9 – 5/16.  The actual Tournament will be held via WIFI from 5/17 – 5/20.  For those interested, here’s the Ruleset:

  • Battle Format: Single Battle
  • Rankings will be decided based on player Ratings at the end of the competition.
  • Players may use only Pokémon found in the Unova Pokédex of Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2.
  • Pokémon may not hold the item Soul Dew.
  • Pokémon may not use the move Sky Drop or Dark Void during battle.
  • For details, check the Rules section.

I will have to double check the Unova Pokedex for B&W2.  There are some older gen Pokemon in that Unova ‘Dex.  I need a refresher!  I haven’t even looked at my Pokemon game since the PVGC…

Also, quick reminder that there is an ongoing Deoxys WiFi Mystery Gift Event right now!  Don’t forget to download Deoxys to your game – he’s level 100!  The Mystery Gift event ends on May 31st so don’t delay!

ANNOUNCEMENT 3: THE BIG ONE!!

OK I’ve been saving the best for last.  Guess what, Glux Blog readers?  I am taking a trip next month.  From June 10 – June 15th I’ll be on the west coast, visiting Los Angeles and Las Vegas.  What am I doing over there, you might ask?  Well…

That’s right!  JDubz and I are going to E3!!!

I am SOO EXCITED!  Not only will this be my first trip to the west coast, but JDubz and I will be attending the E3 Conference as interns for Island Officials.  We’re also going to be meeting up with Jenn (aka Vella) from sosostris.com to see the “Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses” concert once again!  And after the conference, we’re going to road trip it up and drive through the desert to visit Las Vegas!  OMG!  I am beyond excited!  I can’t wait to report to you all, EXCLUSIVELY, about all the latest upcoming games, gadgets and electronics at E3!  What’s amazing is that the Glux Blog is not owned by any major corporation, and I don’t have to answer to anybody.  What does that mean for you?  Unedited, uncensored, instant reporting for you!  No waiting for an editor to approve my news updates.  No big brother company making me sway my opinions to fit a corporate agenda.  So when you are looking for the latest news from E3, forget Kotaku!  Check the Glux Blog, or more likely my Facebook and Twitter accounts, for up-to-the-minute updates, news and photos!  I’ll do my best to blog daily as well.

So now the Countdown begins!  30 Days Until Animal Crossing: New Leaf!  31 Days Until E3!!  June is going to be the BEST MONTH EVARRRR!!!

2013 PVGC Recap!

Editor’s Note:  Before I start this entry, I would like to make a statement.  Like most Americans, I was shocked and saddened by the senseless bomb attacks at the Boston Marathon this past Monday.  My heart goes out to the victims and their families, and I wish these violent attacks on innocent civilians would stop happening.  My father is from the Boston area, and after taking two trips to New England in the past weeks, I feel a deep emotional attachment to Boston.  I just wanted to show my support for Bostonians and Americans alike.  We must stay strong.

This past weekend was the 2013 Pokemon Video Game Championships!  This year it was being held in Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots, in Foxboro, MA.  Having just been up there for PAX East a few weeks ago, JDubz and I were pumped to get on the road and visit our home away from home!  I took a bunch of photos so we are going to proceed in “Photolog Mode.”

We packed up the gang and got ready to drive up to Massachusetts!

I love driving up to Boston because we pass so many windmills! They look just like the one I have in AC:NL! 😀

We stayed at America’s Best Value Inn, which was a MUCH nicer hotel than the one we stayed at for PAX. This hotel even had a “night club” but DJ K.K. was nowhere to be found. 😛

Approaching Gillette Stadium! I really liked this eBay Tower. Not sure what it’s purpose is though.

Close up shot of Gillette Stadium. Pretty swanky!

I *think* we’re in the right place… XD

Talk about a Pokemon Stadium! While we weren’t actually competing in the stadium, they did have huge Pokemon logos up on the Jumbotrons! Imagine if we were able to play down on the field…?

Pokemon SWAG! All competitors were able to download a special Ludicolo, which was a replica of last year’s PVGC Champion’s Ludicolo that was on his winning team.

In addition, we also got these sweet Umbreon cards for the TCG!

Waiting for the Swiss rounds to get underway!

Even with my little Pokemon mascots cheering me on, I didn’t do so well. I went 0-4 in the Tournament before giving up. For those interested, my team was: Hydreigon, Gyarados, Drapion, Emboar, Glalie and Lucario. My main problem (I think) is that I approached this Tournament the wrong way – this team is probably better for a Singles battle. Most kids that had success had teams that worked together more harmoniously and had a theme, such as a Sandstorm team. For the next PVGC I’ll try to really focus on the dynamics of a Doubles battle and set my team up right!

*sad face* LOL this is after I decided to drop out of the Tournament.

JDubz did a little better than me and went 1-3 for the day. He’s the one on the left with the Umbreon hat. This photo was taken during his epic-ly long 20 minute battle with his opponent. If you’re interested, we have the footage from this Epic Steel Battle up on YouTube. Click the image to see the video!

I kinda felt like Emolga in this pic lol!

Don’t worry about me, I wasn’t expecting to do well at the PVGC.  I’m not really that competitive when it comes to Pokemon.  I really just went for the StreetPasses, Pokemon giveaways and for an excuse to take another road trip.  🙂  I am happy to report that I am now the Mayor of the Cracker Barrel in Connecticut on Foursquare!!  Hahaha!

That being said, I would be open if anyone has any Doubles teams suggestions for next year!  Any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

Pokemon Tournaments and Giveaways!

Though I’m sure nobody minds that Animal Crossing: New Leaf blog entries seem to have taken over this blog… I thought it might be smart to keep posting about other Nintendo games as well.  I don’t want to torture all of you who are desperately awaiting a release date for the English version of ACNL!  So I’m going to stick with the weekly newsletter format for Wasabi.  I think it makes more sense because I clearly don’t have the time to post about my town daily anyway!

Let’s take a brief pause from Animal Crossing and talk about all the cool things that are going on in the world of Pokemon!

Tournament Announced: 2013 Winter Friendly

The latest tournament series has been announced for Pokemon B/W2.  (Pretty sure you can participate with the original B&W games too.)  This Tournament is called the 2013 Winter Friendly, and registration is open from 2/7 – 2/14.  The actual Tournament will take place from 2/15 – 2/18.  This international competition is open to all regions, with the exception of Japan and South Korea.  The format will be a Rotation Battle (cool!) and the only banned Pokemon is Chatot (…why?!?!).  An entry gift will be given to all participants – a Micle berry.  I’m very excited to check this out, as I’ve missed the past few tournaments, and this is the first Rotation Battle competition held outside of Japan.

In addition, for those with a Japanese copy of B/W2, there is a new Tournament announced called the Kanto Cup.  Registration is 2/15 – 2/22 and the Tournament runs from 2/23 – 2/25.  As you might guess from the title, only Kanto region Pokemon will be allowed to participate, with the exception of Mew and Mewtwo.  Battle format will be standard Single Battle, and the participation gift is the big selling point (at least for me) here – Venusaur, Blastoise and Charizard C-Gear Skins!

Why don’t we get more awesome C-Gear skins in North America??!?!?  😦

Information about both Tournaments can be found here on Serebii.

Meloetta In-Store Mystery Gift

We’ve waited long enough, now we can finally download a Mystery Gift in Pokemon B/W2 to receive the Legendary Pokemon Meloetta!  This event has been announced for the USA and Canada.  In the US you can download this Mystery Gift from your local GameStop, and Canadian players can find Meloetta at EB Games.  The event will run from 3/4 – 3/24 so don’t miss out on this limited time offer!

Once you have your Meloetta, the fun doesn’t end there!  Pokemon Black and White 2 has an in-game event if you take your Meloetta to the Cafe in Castelia City.  Doing so will unlock a scene and will allow Meloetta to learn an exclusive move called Relic Song, which allows Meloetta to change forme in battle.  For more details, click here.

3DS Game Overload!

As my local area continues to recover from the devastation brought on by Superstorm Sandy (many homes are only now FINALLY getting power turned on… 2 weeks after the storm!) I’ve been using videogames as an ‘escape’ from the harsh reality all around me.  Luckily for me, several new awesome 3DS games were released recently.  I’ve been attempting to play them all equally but it’s just not happening.  But anyway, here’s what I’ve been playing lately:

  • Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask – Everyone’s favorite puzzle solving professor is at it again!  I’ve played an earlier title in this series (though I forget which one) and enjoyed it, so I was looking forward to trying out the new 3DS game.  As expected, the 3D graphics are really cool, it makes the environment you have to search much more real.  There are new searching functions, like ZOOMING which open up the search area even more.  Let’s not forget the PUZZLES too!  Just as challenging as ever, the puzzles take on a wide variety of themes and use logic and math to solve.  The storyline is very interesting too, it takes place in both present day and Layton’s past, revealing new sides to the often dull and no-nonsense professor’s personality.  I don’t know if this was a feature in the older games, but there are really fun side-quest mini games in this new title, including training a cute bunny, operating a robot and being an assistant in a shop.  There’s also 365 new puzzles that can be downloaded for free (once per day) and who doesn’t like FREE DLC?  Overall it’s a great title and I highly recommend it to anyone who “likes to break a mental sweat.”
  • Harvest Moon: A New Beginning – The long awaited newest installment of the Harvest Moon franchise is finally here!  HM:ANB has a lot to live up to, as the previous title (Tale of Two Towns) had an excellent storyline and great new controls to make gameplay easier.  ANB so far isn’t quite the same; the start of the game is extremely slow, and your town is basically a ghost town at the start.  Without the weekly Cooking Festival, it is hard to build friendships with the townies early on, but if you stick with the game the rewards start coming out at the end of Spring Year 1.  The biggest upgrade to the game would have to be the CUSTOMIZATION!  You can move just about any aspect of your farm to wherever you want.  And instead of paying Gannon thousands of dollars to build a shed on your homestead, you are given access to a studio where you can build these add-ons yourself, if you have the necessary materials and tools.  I’ve only barely begun to unlock all the blueprints to build custom objects for my farm and the surrounding town.  Another pitfall I’ve discovered so far is the lack of pets.  I miss my pets!  Now, I don’t know if they just haven’t been unlocked yet, but I sure don’t enjoy pushing my big fat cow out of the barn every morning!  Luckily I did just get a blueprint to create a cow bell, which will hopefully make matters slightly easier.  But I want a doggy!!  Don’t get me wrong, this game is awesome, it’s just kind of slow to start.  For die-hard HM’ers, this is no big deal.  I think I’ll start blogging more about this game, just because Vella has been doing that and it seems fun hehe!
  • Paper Mario: Sticker Star – I’ve been a big fan of the Paper Mario franchise since the original title was released for the N64.  I always loved the art style and the RPG battle format.  The new 3D title does not disappoint, the 3D graphics look SO COOL!  So far the storyline is really interesting, and since everything is made of stickers, there are a lot of hidden areas and secrets to discover by peeling away the scenery.  The only thing I can complain about so far in this game is the fact that you have to battle using stickers.  No more FP for moves, instead you can only use moves that you have in your sticker book.  Each sticker is one attack move, and once you use it, it’s gone!  So you are constantly stressing about finding the right stickers and managing the stickers you have.  While I might be complaining because it’s different from the older games, I do admit the change of battle style does keep things interesting and it’s fun when you find a cool rare sticker!  So I’m not really complaining, but it is an adjustment.  I also like how the game incorporates a little more of the Super Mario feel in the world map.  In previous games it was just a linear map, you go from Point A to Point B.  In Sticker Star you have more options on where to go and what order you want to work toward completion, with a map that more closely resembles one you’d find in a Super Mario game.  I really do love this game, it is an excellent mix of the classic Paper Mario and new innovative game play ideas.

I’d highly recommend any of these three games.  Professor Layton is definitely for a more mature crowd, the brain-busting puzzles and eloquently written storyline are definitely more appealing to adults than kids.  (Though I’m sure there’s plenty of smart kids out there who enjoy the game!)  Harvest Moon takes on new challenges, but with it’s slow start and unique gameplay style, I admit it’s better suited for the seasoned HM player.  Not sure a player new to the Harvest Moon series would have the patience to stick it out a whole month with no action, two crops and one cow.  But if you’re willing to wait, it’s turning out to be a fantastic game!  Paper Mario, as I’m sure is no surprise, is a great game for gamers of all ages and level of gaming experience.  It’s just an amazing title for the 3DS and has been well worth the wait.

In addition to all this, I’m also trying to finish up Pokemon Black 2, and at the same time starting up Pokemon White 2.  In Black 2 I’m attempting to beat the Battle Tower in Black City (I just unlocked Area 10 but it’s really hard and I’m scared to try the final level!!) and JDubz and I finally beat the Multi-Battle Subway.  My Pokemon White 2 I’ve only just started up, and so I’m slowly but surely making my way through that game.  Phew!  There just aren’t enough hours in the day to play all these games!

Speaking of not having enough time to play everything, the problem is going to increase even MORE next Sunday.  Why is that?  Well, silly, that’s because the Wii U is being launched on November 18th!  JDubz and I preordered our Black Wii U bundles through Best Buy.  Not our first choice, but with the preorders being so limited, we took what we could find.  However, since Best Buy has a reputation for taking preorders and then not having enough product to actually fulfill said preorders, we plan on going REALLY early and waiting for hours for the store to open.  We are NOT missing out on the launch of this new console!  Even if that means freezing our butts off!  So of course I’ll keep you all posted on how that turns out.  We’re just glad we didn’t end up preordering through the GameStop in JDubz’s town, since that store was completely flooded and to this day has still not re-opened.

So, have you been playing any of the games I’d mentioned?  Are you getting a Wii U at launch too?  Let me know what you’re playing in the comments!

Before I go, I have to plug my friend Vella’s blog because she is fortunate enough to have a basic understanding of Japanese and has a JP 3DS console.  This means she also is lucky enough to have a copy of Animal Crossing 3DS (New Leaf) and has been blogging diligently about all the new features and characters she’s been discovering in her new AC town.  I’m so jealous!  Please check out her blog for a sneak peek at all the awesomeness that comes with the newest Animal Crossing installment!  I’m still waiting for a US release date for this game.  It looks SOOOO AMAZING.  Can’t wait!  For now, let’s all live vicariously through Vella’s blog!

EPIC POKEMON AND NYCC RECAP!!

Let’s go back in time.  Think back to 6AM on Saturday, October 6th.  What were you doing then?  Sleeping, blissfully… dreaming of the upcoming Black & White 2 release the following day.  What was I doing?  Boarding a train on the Long Island Rail Road to get to the city and start waiting in line at Nintendo World!  Why was I doing this?  Well, Nintendo World was holding an EXCLUSIVE Launch Event where they were selling copies of the new Pokemon games a day before the rest of North America could get their hands on it.  So of course JDubz and I had to get the games a day early!  Plus, the rumor of a free gift or two certainly inspired us to be out in the city at such an early hour.

We didn’t get there a moment too soon, as there was already a huge line and the NYPD was all set up as they anticipated the line going all the way down the block and around the corner.  Everyone on line was either playing StreetPass Mii Plaza or Pokemon Black and White as we waited patiently for the store to open and let us in to give Nintendo all our money!!  Here’s a professional photo of the line we were waiting on.  You can actually SEE me and JDubz in the line…  well, I’m mostly cut off (but do you see the yellow Pikachu hat w/pointy ears??  Thats me!) and JDubz is clearly visible with his very long beard and blue cap!

Pokemon Launch Event at Nintendo World

If you’d like to see the other professional photos that were posted from this event (since I umm neglected to really take any decent photos at this Launch Event) please check out the article on Go Nintendo!

Luckily we made it into the store sometime around 11am and were able to get our hands on both copies (Black 2 and White 2… yeah I bought both lol) as well as the beautiful hardcover Collector’s Edition Guide and we also got a TON of swag!  The only majorly exclusive item that I couldn’t get duplicates of was the knit Pokemon Scarf!  IT’S ONLY MINE!!!  But here’s the rest of the swag we got at the Launch Event.  Be jealous!

Pokemon Swag

Pokemon Swag

So that pretty much covers the Launch Event.  There were other things going on that day, such as a photo op with Pokemon Starters and some battling and whatnot with Pokemon DS NYC, but honestly we were so tired from getting up super early and waiting on line for hours that we ended up just going home.  We’re lame, whatever!  lol

The following weekend was REALLY AWESOME!  It was my first time ever attending New York Comic Con… and they sure didn’t disappoint!  I will now go into “Photolog” mode and just describe what’s going on in each photo as I go along.

DAY ONE

Javits Center Lobby

Javits Center Lobby

Here you can see the Javits Center quickly filling up with attendees.  This was only the main lobby… the Show Floor was MUCH more jam-packed with people, if you can imagine that!

The Wii U Booth

Obviously one of the first booths we went to was the Nintendo Wii U booth.  They had a ton of consoles set up so everyone could get a chance to play!  Luckily we were there early… by the end of Comic Con this booth was so full of people, you’d have to wait on line forever!

JDubz playing Wii U

Here is a photo of JDubz trying out the Tekken Tag Tournament game.  I thought it was weird that he was looking at the small screen the whole time he was playing.  I guess we all have to adjust to the new controller in our own way!  Personally, I tried out the game Tank Tank Tank! which was a LOT of fun.  I didn’t look at the GamePad even once while I was playing.  It was a very sleek and light controller, and a bit wider than I expected it to be, but still quite comfy in my hands.  Can’t wait to get my own Wii U next month!  😀

Meeting up with our Pokemon DS NYC friends!

Another big highlight on Friday was meeting up with our friends at Pokemon DS NYC.  These guys are always a blast and full of information!  One thing I learned that day was regarding the new 3DS game Pokemon Dream Radar.  Did you know that after you beat the main game in Dream Radar (i.e. after you catch Landorus) you can unlock legendaries from OLDER games as well?  All you have to do is start up Dream Radar while having an older-gen Pokemon game in your card slot (HeartGold, SoulSilver, Platinum, Diamond or Pearl) you can catch the main legendary from THAT game as well?  They can be tricky to catch, so I hear… but it’s worth it!  Don’t forget, the legendary Pokemon will have a hidden ability if it comes from Dream Radar!

Cosplayer as Gym Leader Elesa

Sorry this pic came out blurry.  I never said I was a photographer!  But here’s just a tiny sample of all the Pokemon cosplayers we saw at NYCC.  This girl was dressed up as Gym Leader Elesa.  Her costume was so good, people kept stopping her and begging her to pose for a photo.  I almost felt bad for her – sometimes people need to leave the cosplayers alone so they can enjoy the convention too!  Or maybe by having an awesome cosplay outfit… they are asking for it?  lol

DAY TWO

Giant Inflatable Pikachu!

The main event on Saturday [for me] was the Pokemon Black and White 2 Launch Celebration!  Not only were they hyping the new games, but they also had a WIFI setup to download Genesect, they also had a demo station for Pokedex 3D Pro!  Not to mention a big stage where they were hosting a concert by I Fight Dragons (yeah we skipped that part tho lol) and a Freeze Dance competition (they gave away a 3DS to the winner!).  Other perks were a VIP Lounge (only a select few of us got the special wristbands to get into the VIP area.  Not much was up there tho, aside from free snacks and a better view!), trivia games and swag giveaways!

Pikachu and Me!

Of course, the biggest highlight of the event for a Pikachu Fangirl like me was getting to take a special photo with my favorite Pokemon… PIKACHU!  You can see I’m wearing my Pikachu hat, holding a Pikachu doll… what you can’t see was my Pikachu t-shirt, Pikachu dog-tag necklace from 1998 and my Pokemon Scarf!  Yeah I was hardcore.  😛

DAY THREE

Bumble Bee from Transformers

Sunday was a shorter day.  It was “Kids Day” which means lots of screaming children and we weren’t planning on spending the entire day there.  So we basically wanted to do catch-up and make sure to see anything we might have skipped on the first two days of the Con.  Luckily, right when we walked in we saw a HUGE, Chevy-sponsored Bumble Bee guy waving to fans and making squeaking sounds.  It looked so legit!

“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan

Honestly I didn’t know who this was, but JDubz did.  And apparently “Hacksaw” recognized me, as he called out “Pikachu!” to me as we walked by.  Who knew that an old wrestler knows who Pikachu is?  Anyway, he was nice enough to pose for a blurry photo.  Thanks Hacksaw!

Usually you have to EARN Gym Badges, but at NYCC they are like $25 lol

OMG I can’t write a post about Comic Con without talking about the SHOPPING.  Holy Crap!  If you didn’t know, one of the biggest areas of Comic Con is the Show Floor, which is basically a huge NERD MARKETPLACE.  You can’t haggle, you can only beg and plead while trying not to get trampled by the masses of people stuffed into this area trying to buy everything they can find.  There was so much cute Pokemon stuff, retro comics, costumes, LARPing people, canvas and print art… omg the list goes on and on.  We picked up some really cute Unova Gym Badge pin sets.  If you’re interested, you can find this company Sanshee online and buy gym badges for yourself online.

OK obviously we did a lot more and saw a lot more than what I’ve posted here.  If you want to see ALL of my pics from NYCC, please visit my Flickr page.  Phew!  That was a lot of writing.  Done for now!  🙂

Pokémon Black & White 2: Launch Weekend Update!

This weekend is gonna be AWESOMEEEE!!!

Pokemon Black and White 2

In case you didn’t know, or you forgot, or you don’t keep up with Pokémon news…  the new games are coming out THIS WEEKEND!  For most of the country, Pokémon B&W2 will be released on Sunday, 10/7.  However, if you’re super cool like me and happen to live close enough to the Nintendo World Store, the games are going to be released on Saturday at 9AM!  There is going to be a Launch Event party at the store, including free gifts and photo ops with giant Pokemon mascots!  I managed to get someone to cover my Saturday morning shift so that I can go to the event, so I’m very excited to play this game (again) before everyone else!

Since these new games are sequels, you can transfer some of the information from the original B&W to your B&W2 games.  This new feature is called the Memory Link, and it can transfer your Pokedex Completion Certificates into the bedroom of your B&W2 game.  Note:  The Memory Link does not actually transfer the contents of your Storage Boxes to the new game.  So I’m spending a lot of time working to complete my Pokedex in White so I can transfer it over.  I’m up to like 518, so I’m almost there!  Wish me luck!

In Animal Crossing news, there is a Japanese Nintendo Direct coming tomorrow (Friday) morning, apparently it will be full of Animal Crossing info on the new game.  In Japanese.  So I’ll do my best to figure out what they are talking about and share more screenshots with you.  Also, an Animal Crossing 3DS bundle is going to be available for Japan, and it is going to include a limited edition Animal Crossing pattern 3DS XL, as well as the new 3DS game.  JEALOUSSS!!!

And finally, I’d like to mention that next weekend is NEW YORK COMIC CON!  I’ve got a 3-Day Pass, and it’s going to be my first Comic Con.  I’m a bit perturbed to read that there will be many porn stars present at the convention, but I’ll try my best to remain civil and just stay away instead of starting a fight with these bimbos.  Don’t worry, I’ll take plenty of photos (tho not of those sluts lol!) and report everything I see at NYCC and share it with all of you!  🙂

Taking Control of Ransei

This week has been really great!  I’ve got two brand new Pokémon games to play, and they are both equally awesome!  I just started playing Pokémon Conquest, as well as a Japanese copy of Pokémon White 2.  (No, I don’t speak Japanese.  But I do speak the common language of Pokémon!)

I would love to tell you all about how awesome Pokémon White 2 is, but certain people don’t want to read any spoilers before the game comes out in America.  So I’m happily deflecting to my good friend and awesome blogger Jenn, who has been doing some really great coverage of the newest Pokémon installment.  I highly recommend that you check out her blog – she’s been detailing which Pokémon appear in which areas, best strategies to beating the Gym leaders, and she’s got lots of great photos to show you the way!  Read Jenn’s blog today!

And now for a little world conquest!

Pokémon Conquest is more than just a tactical game.  (Personally I love tactical games tho!)  Yes, you have a grid board that you move your army around and you have to take turns making moves and setting up traps for your opponent.  But in this game, your army is made up of Pokémon!  You start out with an Eevee (who can be evolved later in game!) and your friend has a Jigglypuff.  As you progress in the game, you take on new regions that are filled with new wild Pokémon that you can befriend and add to your team.  Not only that, but you can expand your army by recruiting warriors who have already trained strong Pokémon to help you with your quest.

What I love about this game is that it brings together so many games that I already like.  The board-game style battling is reminiscent of old games like Stratego and Risk, only made ten times better by using Pokémon instead.  Some of the battle areas are type-specific, so if your Pokémon can’t fly, don’t stand on a part of the grid that’s got a poison puddle on it!  And so on.

Not only do you have to manage your army on the battlefield, you also have to manage your kingdoms.  This is where another one of my favorite old games comes in – Civilization.  Maybe a bit of Sim City too.  Those games are all about managing your resources and delegating tasks to your minions.  So if you don’t want to spend all day battling your Pokémon in every kingdom, you can set each kingdom to work on Training, Scouting or finding Gold on their own.

Let’s not forget that this game is all about POKEMON!  So in addition to everything else, you’ve gotta catch em all!  You can acquire wild Pokémon, use your warriors’ Pokémon, and you can evolve Pokémon too!  Through the game you can obtain different held items, some of which can be used to evolve your Pokémon, just like in the regular game!  Plus there are a ton of passwords for really cool Pokémon that you can get from Serebii.

OK I can’t help but say one negative thing about Pokémon Conquest.  You can’t transfer any of your hard earned Pokémon from Conquest to any other game.  There’s no way of trading or transferring anything to Black and White.  Wah.  Luckily I have plenty of Pokémon on those games so I don’t need Conquest for that anyway!

It’s been very tough balancing playing both Conquest and White 2!  They are both so awesome!  I’ve been posting my updates on White 2 on Twitter, so if you wanna talk about Black & White 2, keep it in Twitter so JDubz doesn’t complain about me posting spoilers on this blog lol!

Have you picked up either of these two games?  What are you playing lately?
