It’s Day 3 of A Geeky Gal‘s 30 Day Geek Out Challenge! I’m a little late to the party but that’s okay. I encourage all of my blogger friends to participate as well!
Day 3: What Was Your Favorite Con Experience?
I knew the answer to this one right away! PAX East 2013 was definitely the best con experience for me. It was a different time back then. That year was my first time appearing as a panelist at a gamer convention, and was the sole female on the panel, which makes me very proud.
Back then, StreetPasses were a daily priority and this convention was one of my first experiences collecting StreetPass tags in rapid-fire succession. It was delightful and overwhelming and I was very excited to finally start filling out my StreetPass map. I also purchased a Pikachu 3DS XL at this convention, and Nintendo reps even pulled me out of the long-ass line to do a photo-op and purchase my console, just because I was wearing a Pikachu kigurumi! Pika Pika!!
Yes, like I was saying… it was a different time back then lol! Look at that hair!
I’m a bit more jaded about cons lately, as tickets are over-sold and scalpers make the online queue process really annoying. The vendors on the show floor are all pretty similar after a while. Basically, I only attend a big con these days if I am on a panel.
But! If you want to read an enthusiastic 2013-version of Glux recount this convention experience, read my old blog recap from PAX East 2013 here in the Glux Blog archives: https://gluxbox.com/2013/03/28/pax-2013-recap/
How cool that you got to panel! That is something I would love to do some day.
It’s definitely a lot of fun to be on a panel and work with other nerds towards a communal nerdy presentation. The best part is that ANYONE can apply for a panel at most conventions! If you have an idea and a few people to work with, you should consider submitting an application!
