Pikachu is Better than Eevee

The next spin-off Pokémon game is coming out on the Nintendo Switch next week and it’s coming out with two titles: Pokémon Lets Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee! Naturally, this has sparked much debate over which game to get, and which Pokémon is ultimately BEST. I’m here to settle the score once and for all. The answer is PIKACHU.

Pikachu is the best ‘mon. Whyyyyy you may ask?

Let’s start with design.

When it comes to gender, it’s very easy to tell the difference between a male and a female Pikachu. The female has a heart shape at the end of her tail, while the males have more of a lightning bolt shape.

I can honestly say I never noticed any difference between male and female Eevee until I looked it up. There is a small difference in the design of the fur on their tails.

There’s also the important detail that Pikachu has many, MANY different variants to choose from, depending on which game you are playing. Pikachu wears many hats (literally) and cosplay costumes that are extremely adorable.

One might try to argue that Eevee can evolve into eight different and cute Eeveelutions. Of course this is true, and the various Eeveelutions are wonderful ‘mons. Don’t get me wrong, I think Umbreon is badass. But those Eeveelutions aren’t really Eevee are they? Eevee is just the simple, brown, normal type Pokémon that looks like a furry pet.

Pikachu stands out because he’s timeless. He doesn’t need to evolve to be cool. He’s cool all on his own! (Note: uhh do Pikachu and all the Eevees have similar ears or is it just me?) In fact, Pikachu’s evolution Raichu isn’t really even that great. No offense Raichu.

OK fine, Raichu is cool too. But that’s not what I’m debating right now!

Now let’s look at the videogames. The next argument in favor of Eevee is that in the main Pokémon VG series, Eevee is considered a stronger battler. Pikachu’s electric type is easy to target and frankly, he doesn’t have good base stats. Because of his potential to evolve into different types, Eevee has a wider moveset pool. Sure, sure. These arguments ARE all totally valid… if the main Pokémon VG series were the only Pokémon games in existence.

Fans of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon will know that Pikachu is a central character, often selectable as the starter that you can use as your main character in the game. Pikachu had his own game, Hey You Pikachu! on the N64. PokéPark Wii also featured Pikachu as the main character. And let’s not forget the much more recent Detective Pikachu which still haunts my dreams with that creepy voice.

Clearly Pikachu is more popular when it comes to spin-off games. But to those who still want to argue that the main Pokémon series is more important, let me ask you this: Does Eevee know how to use Surf? Or know how to Fly? If that’s not street cred for Pikachu in the Pokémon VG series, then nothing is.

The only way I’d be convinced to go see the Thanksgiving Day Parade would be if I could be one of these people pulling the Pikachu float!

There’s no arguing that overall, Pikachu is also more iconic. His giant balloon has been in the Macy*s Thanksgiving Day Parade for over a decade. His plush-padded mascots have been running around Japan for even longer. Heck, even Topeka, KS temporarily changed their name to “ToPikachu” recently to promote the upcoming Let’s Go games. (Side quest: Nominate the ideal town or city to change their name to some variant with Eevee in the name!!)

When it comes down to it, Pikachu just has a better reputation for being a trainer’s best friend. Not to mention a friend to ALL Pokémon. He’s the star of the Pokémon animated series, and Eevee will never be able to take that away from him.

But I will be honest. One factor helped me make my decision more than anything: Pokémon Go. The mons are transferable from Go to the new Let’s Go game on the Switch. That makes it very likely for me to be able to transfer the shiny Eevee that I caught during a Pokémon Go Eevee event, and then I’ll have a cute silver Eevee AND Pikachu in my Let’s Go Pikachu game! Seems pretty ideal to me…

Here’s hoping I can also transfer over all of these event Pikachu’s that I’ve caught in Pokémon Go because they are taking up space! lol

Do you find my post offensive? Are you an adamant Eevee fan?? Tell me your thoughts in the comments!
