Do you feel it? The sun shines down a little warmer these days. Snow is melting and it’s about that time to… start planting some CROPS!!
Two of the biggest games in farming are coming out this month on Nintendo Switch – Harvest Moon: One World and Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town. It’s interesting to see how these games have evolved over time. Harvest Moon was the first big name in the farming game, but when game creators Natsume and XSeed/Marvelous parted ways, the game morphed into two flavors – Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons.
Harvest Moon: One World
Harvest Moon feels more like a game for younger players, in my opinion. The latest Harvest Moon game features a focus on providing a wider variety of exotic crops and animal friends for you to interact with. There are several regions to explore, making it the largest Harvest Moon game ever!
Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town
Meanwhile, Story of Seasons has a slightly more mature style, with a robust crafting system that might be more complicated for younger players. Story of Seasons also touts a more inclusive approach to the marriage system, allowing you to marry any bachelor/ette regardless of gender. This game also offers a variety of animals, as well as a cool camera mode!
Both of these titles will be offering paid DLC to expand the experience, which will be available in the coming weeks. The Harvest Moon DLC will be $14.99 for all 4 packs, and the Story of Seasons DLC is $19.99 for 5 packs.
What is the best farming game on Nintendo Switch?
That is tough to say. Some people love the classic style of the original Harvest Moon. Others prefer the way that Story of Seasons allows you to craft and customize everything in town. And these two aren’t even the only farming games on the market; Stardew Valley is a strong farming contender too, with it’s endearing retro charm and darker, adult themes in the storyline. While there is not a new Stardew Valley coming out, there have been several free DLC updates worth checking out in that game too.
It all comes down to what you like. If you’re not sure which farming game is right for you, don’t worry! I will be reviewing both of these new titles here on the blog, and I’ll be livestreaming some game play on the Gluxbox TV Twitch channel.
So grab yourself a hoe, and let’s get farmin’! 🚜
