Week of 4/28 – 5/4

Fossil Exhibit at Wasabi Museum: COMPLETED!

There was a lot of excitement at the Wasabi Museum last week.  Specifically in the Fossil Exhibit – Blathers was elated to announce that Mayor Neko has donated every single known fossil available to the Museum!  For a long time the Museum was only missing the Dino Egg, but on 4/28, Mayor Neko submitted the final fossil!  The Wasabi News is proud to inform all visitors that full fossils of dinosaurs, from T-Rex to Wooly Mammoth, are now on display at the Fossil Exhibit.  The Wasabi Museum is open to the public 24/7, though Blathers has indicated that he prefers visitors come after 6pm… so that he’ll be awake for their visit, of course, since he is a nocturnal bird.

In addition to the Fossil Exhibit being completed, the Wasabi Museum is also inching closer to filling out the other sections as well.  With the new month of May comes new bugs and fish, which Mayor Neko has been trying to collect and donate as well.  Recently a Pond Skimmer was donated to the Bug Exhibit, and we look forward to many more bugs being donated as the temperature heats up!  Also, a new painting was donated to the Art Exhibit, courtesy of Mayor Neko!

WASABI WELCOMES…

Mayor Neko was doing her rounds in the evening on 5/2, when she spotted something… different.  She was walking past Doraemon’s house when she stumbled into… another house.  A NEW house!  This could only mean one thing.  A new resident had moved into Wasabi!  Curiosity was killing the Mayor Cat, so she decided to barge in and introduce herself.  Inside she found a new rabbit!  This new rabbit was nothing like Tiffany, who recently moved out.  This rabbit has pimples freckles, red hair and wears a plaid shirt.  Mayor Neko didn’t quite catch the name, but after doing some research it was determined that this rabbit’s English name is Gabi.  The gender of this rabbit has not yet been confirmed.  Doraemon made this statement regarding the new resident: “While I welcome new neighbors as much as the next guy, I do plan to have a discussion with Shizue and Mayor Neko about zoning laws.  Surely there must be a rule that a new house cannot be built directly in front of another!”

PUBLIC WORKS UPDATE

At long last, the latest Public Works project, a traditional-style Windmill, has been completed!  On 5/3, Mayor Neko and the townies all met up by the Beach Slope to inaugurate the newest structure in town!  The Windmill looks really beautiful with the spring flowers and trees in full bloom.  Wasabi News analysts suggest that Mayor Neko is considering changing the flowers around the Windmill to be tulips instead of daisies.  Tulips and Windmills just go together so well!

Don’t the Lighthouse and Windmill look so good together?  Mayor Neko is very pleased with the outcome and placement of these two status symbols for Wasabi.  Next, it was time to pick a new Public Works project.  Some new suggestions had been filed at the Town Hall.  Take a look at some of the proposed projects:

Solar Panels! Maybe this would look nice next to the Wind Turbine?

A Stable? Or something??  Anthony probably requested this one…

A Balloon Arch! How cute!

Ultimately, Mayor Neko opted to go with the Manhole Cover.  While its a pricey project, and 99% of the time it does nothing, occasionally that Manhole Cover will be open in the evenings, leading down to… a mysterious place!  Wait and see when and if Mayor Neko is able to head underground for more exploring!

TRAVELING MAYOR

While there’s plenty to do around town in Wasabi, Mayor Neko likes to go traveling when she can, to meet up with her Mayor friends and see how other towns are set up and decorated.  It had been a while since going traveling, so this week Mayor Neko visited with some of her best friends in their towns: Kasen and Orantoiro!

After hearing of a decent Stalk Market price, Mayor Neko was perusing the Recycling Shop in Kasen Village. She picked up the Tuk Tuk that Mayor Yumi had put on display from Thailand.

Enjoying the lovely gardens and blue skies of Kasen Village. Nice shades, Mayor Yumi!

Notice anything new about Orantoiro? Mayor Sakura has implemented some new Fairy Tale style decor around town. So far there is a Fairy Tale Gate, Clock and Lamp Post! Aren’t they cute?

Goofing around on a bench in Orantoiro!

Week of 4/14 – 4/20

Wasabi Inaugurates Central Bridge

After over a week of fundraising, Wasabi is proud to announce that their latest Public Works project, the Central Bridge, was finally completed on 4/16!  Located in the center of town, the newest bridge adds much easier access to one of the most popular places in town: R. Parkers, the Recycling Shop!  No longer will townies have to walk across town just to cross the river.  Since Mayor Neko knew this bridge would become quite popular, she elected to have it stand out with a red brick style, instead of the common stone bridges that exist on the east and west sides of Wasabi.  All the townies are very excited for this town improvement!

NEXT PUBLIC WORKS PROJECT

Not wanting to waste any time, Mayor Neko quickly met with Shizue to discuss the next Public Works project for Wasabi.  Since the Central Bridge was quite an expensive project, the town officials decided to choose a project that was a little less intensive for the upcoming week.  They decided that it would be a good idea to place a traffic light in one of the busier intersections of town.  The accompanying photo is a preview of what the traffic light will look like upon completion.  Please see the Gyroid to make a donation!

While Mayor Neko was looking through the requested Public Works projects of the villagers, she noticed that a different Windmill has also been suggested.  She is a big fan of this alternate Windmill’s vintage style.  It is a pricey project so it has not been selected to be built just yet, but Mayor Neko wonders if she should replace the current, modern style Windmill that is already in Wasabi, or if this traditional Windmill should be added somewhere else in town.  The Wasabi News wants to hear from YOU – our loyal readers!  What do you think should be done with this alternate Windmill?

Should this Windmill replace our existing Windmill in Wasabi? Or should we add this Windmill somewhere else in town?

SPECIAL IMPORTS FROM JAPAN

For those who follow the news from Kasen, you probably know that Mayor Yumi recently was on a trip to the country of Japan, where she made all sorts of discoveries and obviously had an amazing time.  There is a special DLC promotion at the 7-Eleven stores in Japan that allow you to obtain some exclusive 7-Eleven branded furniture for your AC:NL home.  Mayor Neko is extremely thankful to Mayor Yumi for thinking of her and picking up some spare furniture to give as a present.  Thank you, Mayor Yumi!  In the photo you can see that Mayor Neko now has a refrigerated food display case, and a funny/gross-looking Meat Bed!  The Meat Bed is funny because it looks like a tray of meat and rice that you’d buy at 7-Eleven and heat up in the microwave.  To make things extra humorous, Mayor Neko set up her Meat Bed in a doorway, so anyone who wants to visit the Kuroi-Robo room will have to roll over on the Meat Bed to gain access.  It’s hilarious to watch!

MAYOR NEKO’S BAD DAY

Unfortunately for the Mayor, this week was a bit rough for her.  On 4/15, Mayor Neko was really struggling to keep her chin up.  Read the following mini-photolog to see why!

For the entire day, it seemed as though Mayor Neko had two left feet. Any time she tried to run, she would fall flat on her face! How embarrassing!

Wanting to enjoy a bit of retail-therapy to make her feel better, Mayor Neko was instead disappointed to see that the day’s Spotlight Item was a royal throne. While she currently has one of these thrones (thanks to King), she would have liked to pick up a second. Unfortunately this throne’s retail price is ฿800,000. The Mayor’s funds are currently all tied up in Public Works projects and paying off her house loan.

Next, Mayor Neko thought she’d buy herself something at the Able Sister’s shop instead. Apparently it was a royalty themed day, since Labelle was selling a Royal Crown in her accessories shop. Mayor Neko had to try it on, but when she saw the price tag of ฿1,000,000… she regretfully had to return it to the display shelf. If only money grew on trees… If only Mayor Neko had enough money to GROW a money tree!!

WASABI SAYS GOODBYE TO AGENT S

To further rub salt in the Mayor’s wounds, on 4/20, Wasabi’s townie list was made a little bit shorter.  The friendly and cheerful squirrel, Agent S, decided to pack her bags and move on to another town.  Ever thoughtful, Agent S was kind enough to send Mayor Neko a framed photo of herself in her departure letter.  This seems to be a new feature of AC:NL.  The Wasabi News is not sure if all townies will send a photo of themselves when they move out, as Agent S is the first townie to leave since Mayor Neko took office.  Hopefully if you are good enough friends with a townie when they move away, they will send a photo to help you remember them.  While we are very sad to see Agent S leave, everyone in Wasabi is excited for the potential of a new resident moving in!

Week of 2/24 – 3/2

Wasabi Cafe Grand Opening!

Everyone in Wasabi is celebrating the construction of a new building – the Wasabi Cafe!  As promised, Mayor Neko set in motion the funding and construction plans for this new coffeeshop on as soon as the Windmill was completed (see the Public Works section below for more details!) and in less than a week, on 3/1, the doors were open!  Brewster is the owner and main barista at the Wasabi Cafe, and rumors are going around that if you can get on Brewster’s good side, you can get a part-time job working there!  The whole town is very excited about the Wasabi Cafe, as it is sure to attract visitors from all over.  In fact, when Mayor Neko visited the Cafe for her inaugural cup o’ joe, she noticed Kapp’n was already seated inside.  Guess he needed a quick break from all that ferrying back and forth from Wasabi to the Resort Island…

PUBLIC WORKS UPDATES

It has been a busy week for Mayor Neko and the Town Hall.  Two construction projects were completed, and one more has gone into the planning stages.

2/24 – Windmill Completed!

An earth-friendly Windmill has been constructed in Wasabi to bring in some renewable fuel sources.  On a windy day you can hear the “whoosh” of the Windmill from pretty far away!  The townies are all very excited for this new Public Work, especially Teddy, since the Windmill was built right near his house.  Mayor Neko is also quite pleased, she can see the Windmill from her house – it’s right across the river!

3/1 – Cafe is Now Open!

Read our headline story for all the details!  Construction and funding began on 2/25 and only 4 days later, the Cafe was fully funded and constructed.  Mayor Neko attributes the fast turnaround to the “helpful donations of the residents of Wasabi, as well as the Resort Island for having an abundance of rare beetles to sell.”  Thank you to everyone who contributed to this Public Work project!  Blathers, the curator of the Wasabi Museum, was especially pleased to see the coffeeshop, as he and Brewster are old friends.

3/1 – Funding for the Mayor’s Fountain Has Begun

Any Wasabi resident would agree that one of the main attractions of their town is the Mayor’s Estate.  Located in a private nook by the beach, Mayor Neko’s large two story mansion is surrounded by Delicious Cherry Trees and guarded by hedges.  In an effort to make the Mayor’s Estate even more beautiful, Mayor Neko opted to decorate the outside of her house in the Cabana Style.  In addition, Mayor Neko has set up funding for what is being dubbed as the Mayor’s Fountain.  The Mayor’s Fountain is going to be situated right next to the Mayor’s house, overlooking the waterfall and beach area.  The Wasabi News is excited to see the finished product!  Fundraising has already begun, and at the time of printing, the Mayor’s Fountain only needs ฿80,000 to reach completion.  If you’d like to donate, please visit the Gyroid next to Mayor Neko’s house.

SPRING HAS SPRUNG!

Much to everyone’s surprise, spring came early this year in Wasabi!  On 2/25, the snow officially melted away, revealing lush green grass underneath.  While almost everyone is very excited for the new fish and bugs of springtime, only one wasn’t happy about the arrival of spring… the poor Snowman.  😦  For the information of our readers, the Wasabi News would like to remind anyone playing AC:NL that if you have a Snow Daddy, he will not play Snowman Bingo with you once the seasons change.  Be aware!

A NEW PETITION

Occasionally, one of the townies will come up with a brilliant idea for something or other, for which they will want a petition signed.  When this happens, it is up to the Mayor to visit another town to collect signatures.  (That’s right – you cannot simply ask your own townies to sign a petition!  They are obviously biased.)  So when Kitt approached Mayor Neko on 2/26 to have a petition signed, Mayor Neko took it upon herself to visit the neighboring Kasen Village to get the necessary 6 signatures – and also check out the Meteor Shower while she was there!  The Kasen townies were more than happy to oblige, and Mayor Neko’s task was completed easily, leaving plenty of time for her and Mayor Yumi to take some adorable photos.

When you see a shooting star, don’t forget to make a wish!

Double Meteors!

Yumi is wondering why Neko is blushing at creepy Nelson…

Soo… can anyone tell us what the Petition was for, anyway?

NEW CAMPUS DLC AVAILABLE

The latest installment of the Campus DLC series was distributed on 2/27 via a Letter from Nintendo.  This week’s special furniture is the Eraser Bench.  Like the Campus Notebook Closet, this Eraser Bench can be redesigned in a variety of colors, and costs an exorbitant amount of money to buy from the Catalog Machine in the Nook Shops.

NOOKMART STORE EXPANSION

After a quick reconstruction on 2/27, the Nookmart has expanded once again!  This time, the Nookmart is even bigger, and now the Flower Shop next door has a side entrance incorporated directly into the Nookmart!  In addition, there are now 5 furniture items available for sale per day, 2 carpets and 2 wallpapers per day, as well as a new item – K.K. Slider albums!  The Flower Shop has also expanded their inventory, now offering shrubbery on a daily basis.

A MAYOR ABROAD

Being the Mayor of a thriving village is no easy task.  Mayor Neko spends countless hours fundraising for Public Works, checking the Stalk Market for decent prices (the Wasabi Stalk Market maxed out at ฿153 this week, not too great but at least no money was lost), and of course making connections with Mayors from other towns.  This week, Mayor Neko made three trips abroad!  As described earlier in the Wasabi News, Mayor Neko visited Kasen Village on 2/26.  In addition to this, she visited Mayor Zen and Mayor Aya.

Mayor Zen – Zui Village – 3/1

Zui Village has the astounding Department Store!

Visiting with Gracie in the Department Store, and dropping a pretty penny on some fabulous fashions!

A beautiful fountain and plaza in Zui Village

Mayor Aya – Shakure Village – 3/2

It was raining in Shakure – thankfully both Mayors had umbrellas!

A delicious meal was set up on the table in Mayor Aya’s house!

A Japanese themed room in Mayor Aya’s house looks like it is prepared to celebrate Girl’s Day on 3/3!

Week of 2/17 – 2/23

New Services at Shampoodle’s!

With the passing of the main holidays of February, things have only calmed down slightly in the village of Wasabi.  Despite the lack of special visitors, Mayor Neko has been working hard to keep Wasabi growing.  This week, the big news in town was that the local salon, Shampoodle’s, located in the Wasabi Strip Mall above the Able Sister’s Shop, has upgraded their services as of 2/18.  Harriet tells the Wasabi News, “I was finally able to get a new styling machine installed this week!  Not only is it much better looking (didn’t you notice the charming red paint and lovely daisy at the top??) but it adds a brand new feature – colored contacts!  Now my patrons can really revamp their look with over 16 hairstyles per gender, 13 hair dye colors, and there are now 9 different eye colors to choose from! Come down to Shampoodle’s and get a fabulous makeover today!”  Mayor Neko was one of the first customers to try out the new color contacts, opting for a subtle light brown eye color.

NEW ART EXHIBIT AT THE WASABI MUSEUM

Crazy Redd was seen in Wasabi on 2/19 touting his black market wares as he normally does.  Mayor Neko inspected all the pieces as well as she could, but unfortunately she is not as well versed in art history as she should be, and she neglected to retrieve help from Mayor Yumi.  Unable to determine which artwork was not forged, she purchased a large winged statue on a whim.  Unfortunately, the statue was rejected by Museum curator Blathers.  Luckily, on 2/22, Mayor Neko ran into King, who sold her a painting while she was walking around town.  After checking the painting with Blathers, it was deemed legitimate and promptly put on display.  Thank you for your help, King!

GOSSIP CORNER!

Blathers Seeks Long Lost Friend

Mayor Neko noticed that Blathers was acting a little strange on 2/18.  He had done this once before, when he was feeling homesick for his little sister.  When he told Mayor Neko, she arranged for the Museum upgrade and had Celeste brought in from out of town.  Now it seems that Blathers is still not satisfied (after all, there aren’t any other birds besides him and his sister in Wasabi…) and is missing his dearest friend Brewster.  Mayor Neko assured the wise bird that as soon as the ongoing Public Works were completed, she’d send for this Brewster character and find a job for him in Wasabi.

Mayor Neko and Teddy On a Date??

Less than a week after King had sent a special Valentine’s Day letter to Mayor Neko, our beloved Mayor was seen out dancing with another male!  Teddy and Mayor Neko were photographed dancing very close at Club 444 to some DJ K.K. tunes.  Dr. Shrunk was quoted as saying, “I saw them dancing together, yeah.  But I was also getting my groove on with Mayor Neko that night, so I wouldn’t read too much into it!”  King was not available for comment.

NEW DLC DELIVERED

Late in the evening on 2/21, Mayor Neko was surprised to see Pete the Postman waiting outside her door.  He was happily delivering a special letter from Nintendo!  The latest DLC had finally arrived!  This DLC is different from that which can be retrieved at the Post Office.  There is a promotion with what appears to be an office supply store in Japan called Kokuyo, and Nintendo has created a special Campus furniture set that will be released one piece at a time.  For more information on this DLC promotion, click here.  The first Campus DLC item is a Campus Closet, which looks like a pack of notebooks, but can actually be opened and used to access storage!  This Campus Closet can also be redesigned in several colors.

WASABI WINDMILL FUNDED

Thanks to the generous donations of Mayor Neko and the residents of Wasabi, we are proud to announce that the Windmill has been fully funded!  The Wasabi News expects that the Windmill construction will be completed on 2/24.  Look for exclusive photos of the newest Public Work in Wasabi to be posted in the next issue.
