Last week, this bulletin appeared on the Message Board in Shaolin.  Explorer’s Day was coming!  In the USA, today is really Columbus Day, but I guess Nintendo didn’t want to be specific?  After all, why doesn’t Magellan get a holiday?  Anyway, everyone in Shaolin was excited for the coming event.  Everything around town is starting to feel more like fall, too.  The leaves on the trees are starting to change color!

This past weekend was the first Fishing Tournament of the new season, and I was really glad to see Chip again!  I mean, the Bug-Off’s were fun and all, but Nat was totally creepy.  Chip is a nice big cuddly… umm what is he, a beaver?  Whatever he is, at least he’s honest about what he’s planning to do with my tournament submissions.

That pike was the winning fish, by the way!  XD

Anyway, back to today.  Squirt talked to Tortimer in front of the Town Hall to see what his explanation was for the big event.

I’m not really sure where he gets his intel from.  I mean, Lewis and Clarke were explorers who stayed pretty much on the land.  But I suppose they were really excited when they did finally see the Pacific Ocean… so what do I know?  I won’t question Tortimer’s info.  Well, I wasn’t going to… until he said this:

So while we were busy celebrating exploration in the USA, there was something else going on in Japan.  An event called 体育の日 (Taiiku no Hi) aka Health and Sports Day.  To honor this occasion, which is held on the second Monday of October, Nintendo released new DLC for Japan.  There were two new hats released:  しろぐみのぼうし and  あかいぐみのぼうし which when roughly translated, means White Team Hat and Red Team Hat.  They are baseball hats, just like the ones you’d see in the upcoming Championship Baseball Series in Japan!

I opened the gates of Shaolin and my buddies came in to share with the holiday fun!  Vella came in first (and got her dango, finally!  ww), shortly followed by ちょこまる and オレンジ!  They needed to get Sailboat Models for their friends and family, and dropped off red and white hats for us to wear!
